We currently have a govt voted in by minorities, members of the white middle class who were sold a bill of goods, and lefty-lib wingnuts. Are you sure any of us 'deserve' what we're getting?

Anyway, back to Palin/TeaParty baiting. Scrut needs something to post about.

Paragraph 2 - Did you read this thread? It starts with "Teabagger spawn..." and goes downhill from there, regarding ignorant generalizations toward conservatives. No one has come even remotely close to returning anything as harsh against the left.

And I object to the very notion that we ought to frame such arguments as who is better than whom. If you got a bunch of conservatives acting like morons, and a bunch of liberals acting just slightly worse, the conservatives haven't won.

Let's address the problem, not keep score.

To be fair, a number of us, myself definitely included, have used this as an example of the less than stellar parenting of her mother.

However, I also think that Sarah herself made it fair game when she campaigned in 2004 and continues to give speeches extolling herself as a pillar of family values. If someone wants to claim publicly that he/she should be an example to others of proper family values, then the public has a right to examine how those values work in in practice. This includes what values she imparts upon her children via parenting.

I agree. I think it reflects poorly on her parenting. I do not think anyone made "lurid accusations of bigotry" or whatever.

Once again, the mental effort and self-indulgent victimization it takes to think "teabagger" is some kind of meaningful insult is incredible.

Some people get called idiots because they're idiots. If you are enraged about ACORN or death panels, you're an idiot. A group of such people got together and called themselves "teabaggers." The name was funny.

If you don't buy into the endless list of wrong, silly, and malicious things the "Tea Party" (that sounds even more childish to me) believes, then you're not being called a teabagger. Unlike racial and homophobic slurs that group and insult people based on factors they cannot control.

Now, if you want to argue that we shouldn't call Tea party folks "teabaggers" because they really can't help being that dumb, I'll listen.

First, I'd say he needs to grow a pair and ignore it.

Secondly, scientific studies have proven that 16 year old girls have the sharpest tongues of any creature on earth. It takes a strong constitution to be able to withstand the pointed insults from teenage girls. Knowing that they will not be physically assaulted for their insults, they can be cruel at times. When you get on their bad side, any physical or social shortcoming is seized upon and brought to the attention of the masses. Thankfully, a few grow out of it and become decent human beings.

OK, that said, I don't see how a mother campaigning on family values has anything to do with this issue. Unless it can be proven that the mother taught her daughter to use that word in a disparaging way, her values has nothing to do with it.

I know many cuss words and insults. I learned none of them from my parents. I don't use them in front of my parents and I have very rarely heard them use any. So, is the fact that I can cuss like a sailor have any reflection on them? Unless a kid is never allowed out of the house, they will learn from other sources. You can teach them values until you're blue in the face, but if they find other avenues for expression that are accepted by their peers, they will use it. Do you really think your kids, if you have any, are little angels when they are off with their friends? How much of an angel were you?

For people who would like to find any nit picky thing to discredit their chosen scourge to humanity, I'm sure they love this. To me, its teens being teens. Everyone here, having been a teen, do you think a parent standing up promoting family values would change a thing you are doing?

Has nobody learned the lesson from Footloose?

This is why I am less concerned about the use of 'gay' than I am about 'faggot'. You are right, she probably learned both outside of the house and learned gay in the context that many kids now use it (not specifically directed at homosexuals). I have issues with that trend in general, but I not going to lay blame at Willow's feet for learning it in that context.

However, 'faggot' is much less ambiguous. It is just as clearly anti-gay as a certain word that the auto censors here mask is anti-black. As far as I am concerned, use of that word denotes a specific anti-gay bias by the user of the word. Those are the types of values that people generally learn from their parents.

I know my kids know that word and can use it in a sentence but I sure as hell know they know not to use it to describe anyone, especially on a public web site. I have taught them respect of people of all stripes and would hope that Sarah would do the same.

I also understand that Willow was caught trying to sneak a boy up to her room...while on a reality TV show. She isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

If Palin can't make her own kids behave, how on earth could she run a whole country? I don't care if Palin and her entire family hate the gays and use "faggot" all the time in casual conversation. But I do question the ability of a politician who cannot manage to maintain her own image. Politicians have very little besides public image, and when their kids act like brats and damage that image it demonstrates that the politician lacks the most vital skill necessary to their career. Good lord, even the Kennedys managed to convince much of the public that they weren't as awful as they really were for decades. Palin's been in the spotlight for what, four years now? She needs a Karl Rove to manage the mess that is her image.

My beef with Palin is that she seems bad at simply being a politician, regardless of what her politics actually are.
