Some conservative Republican activists working to unseat House Speaker Joe Straus are circulating e-mails that emphasize his Judaism.

Several e-mails have surfaced in recent days that mention Straus' rabbi and underscore the Christian faith of his leading critics in the House Republican Caucus.

"Straus is going down in Jesus' name," said one, whose origins were unclear.

Straus, R-San Antonio , "clearly lacks the moral compass to be speaker," said another, written by Southeast Texas conservative activist Peter Morrison.

"Both Rep. Warren Chisum and Rep. Ken Paxton, who are Christians and true conservatives, have risen to the occasion to challenge Joe Straus for leadership," Morrison wrote in his newsletter last Thursday, referring to two Republicans who are running against Straus for speaker.

Morrison, asked Tuesday if he intended to signal that Straus is unfit because he is Jewish, replied in an e-mail, "I was simply making factual statements about Rep. Chisum and Rep. Paxton."

You stay classy, Texas.

If Joe Straus were really a true Texas conservative, he'd burn a cross on his own lawn.

Straus deserves it:

Straus, asked his reaction to the e-mails, said in a statement that religious freedom and "the Judeo-Christian values of the dignity and worth of every individual" are key American principles.

I just love it when Jews fall for the "Judeo-Christian values" canard. Take a look around Mr. Straus -- you're one step away from being on the outside of the more exclusive standard of "Christian values" that your antagonists want to promote.

I will, for now, just sit back and enjoy the spectacle as the Texas GOP make asses of themselves and lose the entire minority community, black, Asian and Hispanic as well as Jewish.

If you wanted to watch them lose the blacks and Jews, you're decades late.

Are you serious? If a minority in Texas is voting Republican, this is certainly NOT going to be the straw that break's the camels back. They are not going to say, "Oh noooes, some anonymous people on the internet and one conservative political activist sent e-mails that were exclusionary to Jews - therefore, I cannot respect the current elected officials and the leaders of the party, I must find another party."

If they don't get the teabaggers to sit down and shut up, they are going to look like they approve of that lunacy. That will wake some people up. The longer the teabaggers rant, the less viable the GOP will be among minorities, regardless of any "values" related issues.

Yeah! :D Because who's speaking of judeo-christian-moslem values?

Let's look at this objectively. If I said, "unless the Democratic Party denounces the opinions of someone not affiliated with the party in any way they will appear as if they approve of those opinions," then wouldn't you claim that I was holding them to an unreasonable standard?

Furthermore, as I implied in the previous post, minority Republicans in Texas have heard far worse in the past. Their sensibilities are not so easily offended that this particular claim is going to drive them away.

If the LaRouchies were taking over the Democratic Party, the party could be faulted for not resisting vigorously.

Until they start pushing back, the GOP has tea stains on its shirt for the world to see.

Again. It is just one bigoted kook send out e-mails. Have you never heard of the concept that responding to kooks gives them more airtime than they deserve so the best way to deal with them is to ignore them? The Republicans may have their faults but not sending out e-mails saying that this guy's e-mail was wrong is not one of them.

Hannity and the Rushblob are doing the public image work for both the teatards and the GOP.

That they do not condemn the baggers while they boost the GOP makes in look like the GOP and their supporters in the mdia like the noise that the baggers make.

You obviously don't understand anything about Texas. Many of the minorities hate the other minorities. Hispanics are particularly prone to being Republican because they are so religiously conservative. It's a strange place.

In Florida, many Cubans are Republican because they, or their parents and other relatives fled Castro's Cuba. Too bad that Bay of Pigs caper didn't work out, eh?

The religiosity of hispanics is routinely underestimated across the country. I'm amazed that a couple hundred thousand mormons still get the blame for prop 8. in a state heavily dominated by millions of latino catholics.
