Birthright Citizenship

Secondly, denying birthright citizenship to children opens up the very real probability that we will create a permanent underclass of stateless persons in this country, ripe for exploitation.

or, they will simply go home.

the USA & Canada are the only nations on Earth that grant automatic birthright citizenship.

do you believe this makes Britain, Germany, France, Israel.....evil countries?

that's why most countries in Western Europe do not have such laws.

Evidence? It is pretty much standard world wide the birth place of a child decides its citizenship - Only diplomatic staff and military forces are exempt - Military is by choice

Tennessee
State Senator Stacey Campfield, (a bizarre person, whom I’ve posted about before) is probably going to join up with Curry Todd in an anti-birth certificate bill as well.
It all comes down to the vague 14th amendment and what states can do about it. Possibly Tennessee is about ready to step up to the plate and start talking solutions.

In brief, the state is not required to issue birth certificates at all, so stop issuing state birth certificates to children of illegal aliens.

You may recall Tenn Senator Curry Todd accused immigrants of “breeding like rats.”

or not. People come here looking to survive. If there is no way for them to survive where they came from, they will stay.

Look at the history of the racism behind the Chinese exclusion acts and the reasons used to justify those acts in the 19th and early 20th century in the U.S. None of which have been shown to be true today.

The same reasons are being used today against Mexicans.

These are the Jim Crow laws of the 21st century.

I'm willing to bet that MOST illegal immigrants do not come to the USA to survive. They want a better life, yes. But their survival was not in jeapordy back home.

Such folks can apply for asylum. I am a huge fan of asylum within the USA.

Its funny how some leftists argue that Capitalist USA is a horrible, filthy, unfare place. And yet, they also argue that millions of immigrants come to the USA...to survive.

Contradiction there ay?

What don't you understand about 'in this country illegally'? I don't see the Jim Crow problem.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthright_citizenship#Abolition_of_jus_soli

In a number of countries, the automatic application of jus soli has been modified to impose some additional requirements for children of foreign parents, such as the parent being a permanent resident or having lived in the country for a period of time. Jus soli has been modified in the following countries:
German nationality law was changed on 1 January 2000 to introduce a modified concept of jus soli. Prior to that date, German nationality law was based entirely on jus sanguinis.[3]

look at all of these evil, evil racist countries!!!!!

:)

An increase in the number of "brown" people.

I have a great idea!!!

Lets base our immigration and citizenship policies, purely on Mexico's.

We shall mirror every one of their laws, including nationality quotas, that exist in Mexico. Sounds good?

Sure does to me.

No one is addressing the fact that we'd have to amend the Constitution.

Why is that? Pretending otherwise isn't going to change anything.

And that would be very difficult to do.

Once people realize the FULL implications of changing the 14th amendment, no one will support it.

Methinks you are confused on this issue.

and what would that be?

illegal immigrants going home. God forbid!!!!!!!!!

tourists not using their vacation visa to get citizenship. Oy vey!!!!!

.....yikes, some folks are acting like slavery will be reinstituted if the 14th Amendment is adjusted to refect today's realities.

The problem is, even if you were able to eliminate birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens, those children would still be eligible for all state and federal welfare programs, public education, health programs, etc.

So what's the point?

the only way to eliminate their eligibility for those programs would be to eliminate the equal protection clause.

Seriously, answer this question: Do you think we should eliminate the constitutional guarantee to equal protection under the law for all people (not just all citizens)?

Do you honestly think that this is a good idea?

I do not think illegal immigrants, including their kids, should be eligible for any government benefits.

if I was planning on moving somewhere illegally, I would surely come to the USA, since the stupid Americans give benefits to everyone.

...edit: there actually is ONE benefit I think illegals should get from American govt. sources.

a plane, bus, or train ticket home. free. its on me.

Let's look at it this way.

Minor children can not sponsor their parents for citizenship.

The U.S can and does deport families with minor children who are citizens.

What is under attack here is not just birthright citizenship, it is the equal protection clause. All of these proposed bills have as their goal to remove the children of illegal aliens from school, welfare programs, health programs, etc. Things to which they are entitled to through the equal protection clause REGARDLESS of whether they are citizens or not.

Does anyone seriously think it is a good idea to go down this path?
