Mind you, this raises interesting metaphysical questions.

If Charles is the reincarnation of Bonnie Prince Charlie, does that mean the Prince is no longer technically on the Other Side?

Is he now alive and well in Rio de Janeiro, not dead and disporting himself in a discarnate manner with Flora McDonald?

Was Flora ever reunited with her lost hat?

That's actually an excellent point I had never considered.

I assume (but don't know) that many reincarnation believers also believe in communicating with departed spirits. Have they ever encountered (or heard of, since hearing of something seems to be proof enough of its veracity) one person claiming to have communicated with Spirit X from the other side while another person claims to be a reincarnation of Spirit X?

I imagine such a thing falls under the behavior I have observed amongst conflicting believers: Don't worry about them if they don't worry about you.

Hence, it gets ignored.

I'd never considered it myself until I submitted that post. However, it has been pointed out that at least one other person claiming to be the reincarnation of Bonnie Prince Charlie was alive when Charles made his own momentous discovery. Perhaps the souls of the departed make "back-ups" of themselves, at which point we seem to be straying into the realm of science fiction.

It's all coming together!!!!! Honestly, could there be a clearer indication that the Stuarts are on the brink of regaining the throne?

I prophecy that within the week the Queen will abdicate in favour of the rightful monarch of England, Scotland, France and Ireland - King Francis II, otherwise known as His Royal Highness Duke Franz of Bavaria.

Admittedly there are a few problems.

1) Although Jacobites recognise Franz as the Stuart heir he has absolutely no interest in advancing his claim to the throne. The 77 year old bachelor seems quite happy to potter about in his Nymphenburg Palace apartment and look after his art collection.

2) He's even more Teutonic than the present incumbents and probably doesn't even own a kilt.

Perhaps a visit from Charles, armed with his BOOK and a ouija board, might persuade Prince Franz to abandon this hedonistic lifestyle and fulfil his destiny. Surely anything is better than the prospect that awaits we British in a couple of decades - being ruled by the soulless ginger King William V?

Pehaps the more famous you are, the more "backup souls" you're allowed. This is consistent with there being more people in the world, and the phenomena of more people being famous in their previous lives than being, say, subsistence farmers.

However, it does create a sort of problem: are you the real reincarnation of a certain person, or just a backup copy?

There's a wonderful story in The Psychic Mafia, where fraudulent medium M. Lamar Keene told a woman some nonsense about where she could find her husband's will. He gave her wonderful specifics, but he said the only reason he had was because he thought he'd never see her again. It turned out, he was right. But he acknowledged that it was clearly nothing more than coincidence. He said that he was really good at predictions also, and had what many people would have considered "hits". Again, he knew that he was a fraud and his occasional hits were nothing more than guesses, which ended up in his favor. Some of his "hits" seemed supernatural and seemed "too coincidental," but in the end, he still wasn't a psychic.

Sounds like cold reading. That's probably what's behind a lot of what's driven this thread, whether Charles accepts it or not.

Don't panic! The award still exists but has been re-named. I've also had the medals re-engraved, which was an expense I could have done without as I was recently obliged to replace the State Bicycle of Jreffia with a newer model.
