"Employees at a CBS affiliate in Anchorage left an accidental voicemail for an aide to GOP Senate candidate Joe Miller in which they discussed and laughed about the possibility of reporting on the appearance of sex offenders at a Miller rally. And they chatted about responding with a Twitter alert to “any sort of chaos whatsoever” including the candidate being “punched.”

“The perception that this garbled, out of context recording may leave is unfortunate, but to allege that our staff was discussing or planning to create or fabricate stories regarding candidate Miller is absurd,” he said. “The complete conversation was about what others might be able to do to cause disruption within the Miller campaign, not what KTVA could do.”
He added, “Have we had internal discussions about the level of professionalism we need to bring to our conversations, internally and externally? Of course we have, this is a lesson to learn from.”

It's pretty garbled.

Yea, there is no need to fabricate stories about Miller. There is enough real news that should do the job.

Besides, if they make him too angry, he'll send his security staff to arrest them.

There haven't been many polls out of Alaska recently, but we finally got one today. If the poll is right, Joe Miller seems to have lost 10 points of support since the last poll, putting Lisa Murkowski in the lead. Seems the recent spate of negative news about Miller is having its effect.

How are there two republicans running against each other in Alaska? Write-in candidates don't do so well...

The Dittman research polling seems to be an anomaly, the newest one looks like the earlier ones.

Because Lisa Murkowski decided to run as a write-in candidate. This was reported in the news.

At the time I posted that, the Dittman poll was the most recent, but another bigger poll by a better-known firm has since been added, so I guess we have to defer to that one as probably the more accurate one.

Dear Alaska,

Please stop trying to send your crazy people to the real United States. We're full up on crazies already.

Love,
The 48 Real States

PS: Try Hawaii. They'd probably accept your crazies and send you pineapple back. Mmm, pineapple!

According to the news i have been watching, the REPs have all but in name given up on Miller, as he is sliding big time in the polls.

Well i guess you will have to tell chris matthews then, as he was on with three other journalists last pm, and they all agreed he was slipping in the polls big time.

We will see tomorrow.

applecorped, since not one post dealt with the OP topic, it would appear that no one at JREF actually wants to discuss CBS being caught making plans to fabricate an attack on Miller and laughing about it. Some bunch of *skeptics*. ;)

Except you BAC. Seems your comment above was full of "discussion" about the op.

You can attempt to inform Matthews, but from all indications, he is too far gone to process news that doesn't jibe with his skewered view.. This is the same whacktard who managed to turn the the rescue of the Chilean Miners into an attack on the TPP. * Since when does Matthews have on "journalists?"

Matthews has a wide variety of guests on. Some fellow pundits, some oppositional strategists, and some journalists. They may not come from the rags you read, but they are journalists none the less.

Matthews is a lot less bias, imo, then olbermann or maddow, and certainly less bias then shannity, madman beck, or oreilly.

Their names and affiliation with CBS?

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/10/31/eveningnews/main7009518.shtml

Note: KTVA is owned by the Alaska broadcasting company, not CBS. No CBS staffers were involved and CBS has no knowledge of and no comment on these allegations.

Exactly. According to the reports, this was from a voice mail call, so should they not be able to provide the names of the people that left it. I mean certainly they left their names and a message before the extra stuff was recorded.

Even the OP does not give evidence of the 'fabrication' , now does it, and they are not a CBS station.

Here is the exchange of the "less biased" Matthews and the "journalist" NBC News Chuck Todd on Joe Miller. MSNBC/NBC follows NPR's edict about how it is OK for news analysts/reporters to express biased opinions as long as those biased options follow the liberal talking points.

MATTHEWS: "He seems like a misanthrope. He seems a little misanthropic to me. I don't think people are gonna like this guy. He's been described as an unlikable - well we'll see. I leave it to the voters, obviously. I think that race is wide open"

TODD: "The bigger issue is Joe Miller is running a terrible campaign. He had this weird presser earlier this week. He said "I'm not gonna answer anymore questions about my background!" And I'll tell ya this. You know, look it may be popular, among conservatives, to bash the media. It's an easy thing to do, but you know what? That does turn off a lot of voters because it looks like -what are you hiding? What's the big deal? Stand up, look a little stronger."

Less biased doesn't mean he has to endorse Joe Miller. Joe Miller is a rather extreme candidate.
