Cops kill yet another black guy for probably no reason

And yet there is no report any such thing was found in the car. Where do you suppose it went?

No warrants, no drugs, no cause to run. We don't have a tox screen. I believe the article said he was 21. If you are parked, you don't get a DUI.

So what is more likely here? The kid panicked or he truly thought the cop merely wanted him to move out of the fire lane?

According to the article he was not quite 21.

Ah, what I love about threads like this is how, with little information, we can drop our usual skeptics act and accuse others of being racists because the victim was black. Of course, that is, in and of itself, racist, because had the victim being white, this thread wouldn't exist.

In my experience, people are more outraged when police kill dogs, than when police kill black men.

Are you kidding?

You're kidding, right?

This has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with a dumb kid reacted poorly to a Police Officer rapping on his window. What followed was the lives of 2 other Officers put in danger - and for that, they defended themselves.

At what point, while an Officer is hanging on your hood, do you not stop?

No, I'm not kidding.

having said that, people may also be more angry at police shooting dogs than at police shooting innocent white people, but I really don't know of any cases of police shooting white people.

I could be wrong, but I'd be willing to bet the thought process of the Officer hanging onto the hood didn't go like this:

"Oh, snap, I'm hanging on the hood and he's not stopping."
"Is he black or white?"
"He's black, ok, well, I can go ahead and shoot then"

Much like the people assuming the cops are lying, you're assuming the kids are lying. We don't know yet.

Oh, at what point do you cling to the hood of a moving car?

At the point that it keeps you from being run over ;)

ETA: And what kids are lying? The ones in the car that sped off when an Officer rapped on the window? Would you expect a story line that goes more like this:

Officer raps on window
Driver begins to move car
For no reason, whatsoever, except that the driver was black, the Officers open fire
Driver's car runs into Police Cruiser

Because that's exactly what makes sense.

So he could only get off the hood by jumping in front of the car?;)

Can you guarantee that the driver wouldn't have swerved at the moment the Officer rolled off the hood? Ever heard of "road rash"?

So, if an Officer were hanging onto your hood and you were being yelled at to stop, you'd keep driving?

Wait a sec.

We have Police statements and news reports giving one side meanwhile, you've made the claim that the kids are saying the Officers are lying. And yet you've not heard the kids' stories? Or you have and it simply isn't the same as I posted above?

It's not a strawman to take the argument you presented (that the Officers were lying) and attempt to devise a story that puts the Officers at fault while still fitting the facts as we know them.

Nope, I can't. Can you guarantee that everything happened just as the cop said? Ever heard of CYA?

So, if an Officer were hanging onto your hood and you were being yelled at to stop, you'd keep driving?

Nope, are you sure this is what happened?

... What? When did I do such a thing?

Do you have reason to believe it's not?
Nope, nor do I have a reason to believe it is. I do know that cops will lie when they screw up just as criminals will, so I'm waiting to see what the investigation shows.

What I think a lot of people are failing to realize is that the article in the OP is a sympathy piece. It's written from the point of view of the distraught parents. Of the rather lengthy piece, only two who paragraphs were covering the actual incident. The rest was just talking about how generally awesome this kid was.

Police said that when they tapped on Henry’s car window, he accelerated, knocking Hess onto the hood and driving at Beckley. Both officers opened fire, striking Henry and two passengers, including Brandon Cox, 20, also of Easton, who was grazed on the arm.

They don't go into approximately how long it took for this entire event to take place or how fast the kid was going when the police opened fire. If he was doing say, under 10mph, then the first officer should have stepped off the hood and called in the plate, while the other officer calmly stepped out of the way. If he was doing 30mph with an officer clinging to the hood for dear life, yes, they had every reason to open fire. That goes slightly beyond, "Oops! I thought you were asking me to move. My bad."

I would be cautious with both accounts because everyone has something to lose.

It's looking worse for the cops. The kid was the designated driver, hadn't been to the bar and was waiting to give a ride home to teammates who were there. So, again, no drugs, no alcohol, no police record, 3 years in college, a close family including a father at home, not ghetto blacks or anything like that...

And the cops handcuffed the kid, left him on the ground for some time before realizing his heart stopped and only then did they try to help him.

Yes, the truth will hopefully come out. If anything changes, I'll change my assessment. At this point, killing a kid under these circumstances was overreacting, bad policing, and I don't see how these cops made calm rational skilled decisions here.

Boston Herald
Sports Illustrated
Fox Sports

None of which are sympathy pieces based on the parents' interview.

Suffice it to say that when I stand with my hip against the mirror on either my car or my wife's car, my other hip is well past the windshield and parallel to the hood of the car.

You mean that, based on this thread, you actually went outside and tested the placement of your hips relative to your cars' outside mirrors? Wow. If this thread was not the impetus, what the hell were you doing?

What does "well past the windshield" mean? Two inches? Two feet? The top of the windshield or the bottom?

How can one hip be parallel to the hood of a car? Parallel to the left side? The right side? The front? The bottom?

And, finally, what evidence do you have that your cars are similar to the one involved in this thread?

It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out where my body would end up
It doesn't take a rocket surgeon () to figure out you blew it with this post.

You were never a teenage boy, so you probably never had your friends try to hit you with a car. It's fun.
I call bull pockey on this one. Huge bull pockey. Galactic-sized bull pockey.
