Obama's Gitmo Policy Coming Home To Roost

Special forces assassinations wouldn't have inflicted the sort of devastating losses on Al-Qaeda and the Taliban that the war did. How many do you really expect to take out that way? 20? That's not going to eliminate Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
It would seriously hurt al-Qaeda without killing large numbers of totally innocent people. And to destroy the Taliban would require a permanent occupation of Afghanistan.

The doodlebug will get you if you try that.

Strange metaphor.
Do you often equate the loss of human life to a "a wrist slap"?

I couldn't care less about the loss of terrorist life. They need to be kept busy fighting for mere survival. On their home-turf, not ours. They started the war, they should get war. Thanks to war, Al-Qaeda's capability is a fraction of what it was before 9/11.

Color me skeptical that picking off a handful of terrorists would accomplish that, or even send a clear message of deterrence to states that might consider offering aid and support to terrorists.

It's the Islamic fascist's turn to suffer the same defeat that fascism and communism did.

The disastrous decision to treat "Islamic Fascism" as comparable to Communism or Fascism is one of the reasons for the failure of US Middle East policy. But one has to have an enemy, doesn't one? ...

Bloody few of the people who have died because of the Shrub's stupidity were terrorists. A lot were little girls. Barbaric idea. We are supposed to be civilized. I am so glad you are not in my army or local police force.

Terrorists feel the same way.

I bet you didn't know you had so much in common with them.

Perhaps you need to determine how one identifies a terrorist and a non terrorist. Last thing you want to do is create terrorists by going to war against people who aren't terrorists.

us vs. them.
The exact limited world view that you seem to share with the terrorists.

somehow, when i read leftysergeant's posts, the closing speech of Team America (too NSFW to post) becomes more relevant.

Actually - and I am not joking here - I too have had Team America pop in my head read this thread too. The title theme is often playing in my mind when I read Virus posts..;)

Maybe Virus is a sock puppet for Cheney. He shows the same grasp of military science. Diddly.

No more barbaric than any other legitimate war by a democracy. Afghanistan is a NATO rebuilding operation with unanimous support in UN. Most civilian casualties were caused by the Taliban, who you wanted to leave in control with their Al-Qaeda guests.

Responsibility for bringing war upon the country rests 100% with the Taliban because they started it.

The Terrorists feel the same way.

The terrorists want to fight for their very survival? Pretty sure they'd rather on the offensive with little risk for waging jihad.

I bet you didn't know you had so much in common with them.

Says the guy who's defending terrorists in an argument. Projection much?

Guess it's a good thing we're at war with Terrorists then.

So if civilian casualties creates terrorists out of thin air how come the Taliban isn't creating terrorists of terrorists?

us vs. them.

Yes, I hold the the bizarre, outlandish theory that there are two sides to a war.

Maybe Virus is a sock puppet for Cheney. He shows the same grasp of military science. Diddly.

Says the guy who sounds like Michael Moore on a bad day.

This one is not entirely legitimate.

Says the guy who sounds like Michael Moore on a bad day.

Notice how many of the military people here are buying your crap? Notice how many military people are telling you you are talking through your trousers (and probably thinking with something stowed in your trousers, at that?)

Yes, it is a stupid to think things in binary existence. It's what creates the poor arguments like "IF you are not with us, you are against us" mentality. It is possible for both sides in a war to be wrong to various extents.

As I said, you have a lot more in common with terrorists than you realize.

Doesn't surprise me you like to abuse that quote. Very predictable. You should have thrown in some more predictable, vapid wisdom like "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter".

As I said, you have a lot more in common with terrorists than you realize.

Yawn. Not my problem if you can't tell the difference between Al-Qaeda and people who recognize that we're at war with them.

I think that it is you who have not grasped the full meaning behind it. This may be because you have failed to grasp the arrongance that it expresses.

The willingness to inflict harm on others who do not see the world as you do blurs the line between you and Osama.

States that harbor terrorists will be considered enemies?

Yeah sure. We're at war with Al-Qaeda because of philosophical differences. The mass-murder of innocent American civilians has nothing to do with it. Whatever you say Lefty.

Actually, al Qaeda is at war with us because they see us imposing our ways on the rest of the world whether they want it or not.

Just like the merry morons did to Iraq.

Are you so arrogant as to believe that everyone wants what we have? Do you think that they want our banking system?

I'm not so sure many of us want it any more, seeing what it has evolved into, and we didn't even consider it particularly sinful before the great rip-off.
