Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

It can't possibly be true unless there are embarrassing details.

We've been over this before. We have no signature for Aberhaten (none, nada, zero) even though he supposedly wrote a book trashed kmortis' place, not to mention being the most powerful man on earth at one time.

ETA: Apparently Aberhaten didn't witness the Civil War either, so he couldn''t possibly have founded the Harvard Law School.
Well, while he was trashing my place, he was humming "One Less Lonely Girl". Is that embarassing enough?

And I used to have his signature, but Sir William Jefferson Ramsay Geisler stole it.

ThermonicScott, KDLadage and I have all spoken about Aberhaten. Does that count?

Well, the evidence seems overwhelming. I think that we are forced to conclude that....uh.....whatever point we were trying to make about Aberhaten definitely has more probability of being true than....some other stuff, I guess.

Yup, that seems clear. Wait. Has Thomas Arnold weighed in on Aberhaten yet? I don't think I can really make up my mind about the issue without hearing from him.

I never felt more strongly the desire of keeping up my old friendships, and it often grieves me to think how little I see or hear of many of those for whom I feel the strongest regard.
TO REV. F. C. BLACKSTONE
Obviously, one of those "old friendships" was with Aberhaten.

There you have it folks. Aberhaten has done embarassing things (whistled a Justin Beiber tune), we don't have his signature, Thomas Arnold considers him an "old friend", there's an Aberhaten oral tradition, and he was an apostle/apostate.

Also, I don't think there is any corpse in his tomb.

I'm convinced. Sign me up for Aberhatenism. Any chance we could have our services at a pub?

Where were you when a fellow skeptic trotted out slavery (actually servants) 40 or 50 times?

And in which post was my post discredited?

You have a lot of nerve telling a lie in one line, and asking about your posts being discredited in the next. That is a lie and you are a liar. Lying makes the baby Jesus cry. Bearing false witness on a Sunday, I'd keep my eyes open for lightning if I were you.

There was no lie. And anybody can say your post was discredited without giving an explanation.
You really ought to be ashamed of yourself. The New Testament was written in Greek. In Greek, Doulos means "slave." You know this and yet you lie about it. Why? Who are you trying to convince with your lies?

How about this one?

In the "Do Most Atheists know that Science..." thread I mentioned Norman Geisler and Frank Turek's book called "I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist" a few times because of its clear explanations of scientific theories. But, yes, they did talk about more than science.

In chapter 11 of their book they give the top 10 reasons we know the New Testament writers told the truth. I'll mention some of those reasons and maybe expound on them as time permits.

Reason #1

The New Testament Writers Included Embarrassing Details About Themselves.

For example some passages portray the disciples as dim-witted, uncaring, and cowards.

Reason #2

The New Testament Writers Included Embarrassing Details and Difficult Sayings of Jesus.

For example in one passage someone call Jesus a drunkard, and in another He was called demon-possessed, another a deceiver.

Reason #3

The NT Writers Left in Very Demanding Sayings of Jesus.

For example: (Matthew 5:28) "I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart".

And (Matt. 5:44-45) "I tell you Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you...

As the book says "They certainly didn't make up a story that made life easier for themselves."

Reason #9

The New Testament Writers Describe Miracles Like Other Historical Events: With Simple, Unembellished Accounts.

If they made them up it would be likely that they would have used grandiose and extravagant images. The book says the gospels talk about the Resurrection in a matter of fact almost bland way.

Reason #10

The New Testament Writers Abandoned Their Long Held Sacred Beliefs and Practices, Adopted New Ones, And Did Not Deny Their Testimony Under Persecution Or Threat Of Death

I am going to write a book that is of utmost authority, and I will convince the herds of this heavenly authentic authority by adhering to these 10 simple steps... easy as pie.

1) I am a bag of douche.
2) Jesus Christ smokes rock.
3) this list is not worth going on about... I am surprised it was published, posted, and most of all, that I offered a response ;)

carlitos? Have you heard the Good Word of Aberhatenism? Aberhaten will die his shirt for us to see him better! We meet in the pub over there. Come to a meeting.

You have surely been told before that putting words in capitals adds nothing to your arguments. The reverse if anything.

you can tell a person something, but it doesn't make it authoritative OR absolute homie ;)

who told you this? well, surely they are entitled to think along these lines, but i do not

neither does the dude you chastised for capitals, so...

all you really did there was say *I am of the opinion that caps lock lessens your argument*

and on this issue, you can be sure that there are many different takes on this, and you ain't saying a damn thing.

I don't know about Aberhaten, but Harvard went to the same school that I did (though not at the same time), so that must prove something.

I believe that gives you sufficient authority and expertise to say definitively whether there is evidence that the New Testament writers told the truth--as long as you say that there is.
