What if every student had perfect attendance and straight A's ?

I'm pretty sure the goal of education is to educate. Education is an economic investment in human capital. Alos, it gets the kids out of the house.

It seems education hinged on competition ?
Are our expectations of schools kind of like expecting every NFL team finishing the season with more wins than losses ?

Education:
- socializes children to the society and group work under guidance and an authority, which will be necessary in working life
- teaches politically agreed skills and pieces of information, whose usefulness varies from very essential to totally useless
- delays children's entry to working life (see the attitudes against child labour), until they are mature enough to handle the tasks they will face in working life
- makes the unemployment figures look better, when long unemployed adult students are classified as students not unemployed
- creates an excuse to organize social stratification between the well-paid elite, middle class and lowly paid slaves

Because by having a license you've at least shown once that you are aware of all the laws and regulations regarding traffic, hence when you cause an accident you cannot use the 'I did not know' excuse.

Education exists in its best for to teach our youth the skills and abilities they will need later in life, while at the same time finding out what they are good at and like.
In later life education is a structured way to aquire a new set of skills by using previously gained knowledge.
To take your license example. Yes, I could go sit in a car and figure out what makes it go by fiddling with it, and once I can sorta drive it discover things like right of way and what traffic signs mean through a series of accidents. OR I could take lessons and learn it faster, more efficient and in this case, hopefully without fatal accidents

Not a bad answer. Not sure I agree fully with point two but it's not wholly inaccurate so I can't complain. Funny, I thought you would go into some wacky conspiracy stuff, so it's refreshing to see...

Damn. Ah well, can't have everything.

The goal for whom?

I imagine the goals of the people who fund education are different from the goals of the educators who deliver it and are different from the goals of the students who receive it. The goals will also vary from individual to individual. Are you just looking for my personal opinion?

If so then I would say the goal of education is to prepare students to be future productive and useful members of the society they are being educated in.

If a student is absent or tardy 3 days within a 6 week period, the parent is fined $300 if they don't have doctor's excuse. If a teacher misses three days then his or her students misses three days. Why doesn't the teacher get fined $ 300 for each student. A high school teacher teaching 6 periods times 30 students equals $54,000.

At the end of every DISD board meeting, parents that get permission to speak are given only 3 minutes. They have traffic light and 3 minute timer on a big screen in the front of the room. When the light turns red your turn is over. Oh, did I mention the trustee members are not required to respond to anything the parents say during those three minutes.

Do you have a point?

Different regions have different mission statements.

In BC, the ministry of education assigns the goal of education as:

"To raise the next generation of citizens."

Which is similar to every other public board meeting, at least in California. So?
