If you can't see that this protest in Egypt is the very same action(s) that the activists are so critical of the west for. Colonising the ME, the Muslim lands, the land of "the other", through their support of Israel, and the invasions of Afghanistan/Iraq, by doing what amounts to exactly the same thing.

It's Egypt's decision, as a sovereign nation, as how to control their borders and we have activists flying over specifically to interfere.

I figure the activist community loves this IvP fight. It gives them a focus to try and undo, in a symbolic sense, the colonisation of the Americas by voicing their objection to what they perceive as an invasion of the ME by the evil white capitalist west.

I'm saying it's more about the activists themselves and their patting themselves on their backs about how much more moral and ethical they are than any real concern for the people of Palestine. If these activists were really concerned, they'd be urging the Palestinians to surrender, give it up, declare a state of non belligerency and everybody go off and have a nice life.

But no, activists urge the fight on knowing there's no way for the Palestinians to win. That's why they dismiss the rockets fired from Gaza as "toy" rockets, as ineffectual and not deserving of an armed response.

What's wrong with having gas masks? They aren't offensive, they are defensive, and if you are going into a situation where there is going to be confrontation, and a likelihood that gas would be deployed, then a gas mask would be a very prudent thing to carry with you, don't you think?

What makes you think peaceful protest isn't confrontational? The Flotilla was challenging the morality and legality of the collective punishment of the people of Gaza. Protest confronts power and power often responds with violence.

Going back to the start of this thread I see. Could you, or anyone else for that matter, please explain how a large number of ships were boarded and diverted uneventfully and only one boarding resulted in violence?
