So, you think only the primates and maybe koalas too, leave dermal ridges and you believe those are dermal ridges.

So, those were left by a primate or possibly a koala? What kind of primate or koala leaves dermal ridges like those? Is it possible a human (primate) leaves dermal ridges like those? If we can rule out Kansas koalas, what is left? Is there room for hoaxed dermal ridges, relative to those pictures? Or, when you say, "IMO, those are dermal ridges" do you mean they are in fact "real" dermals left by an animal that has dermal ridges?

BTW, I didn't know we were even talking about bigfoot. I'm not sure the subject matter even matters. Am I still wasting my time?

Nothing would stop a person from imprinting their own dermals into a print (bear or otherwise) in order to make it seem more legitimate.

Is this the track that indiefoot claims is 10"x5"?

BTW, just for trivia, I think I read that "indiefoot" called himself "saycheez" on the old BFF.

Absolutely, but then wouldn't they look more human if they were in fact imprinted from a human foot?

Ace, you are a mod on BFF. Why don't you split that Kansas track conversation into its own thread?

Weird dermal ridges were one found in a Freeman track. He had used his finger to push into the track in various places. I'm not sure if he was trying to fake dermals as much as manually shape the track.

Anyway, an unsophisticated attempt at faking dermal ridges might result in a skewed hodgepodge of lines.

I think you should choose someone else. That guy has worked himself up to such a froth in that thread that he's bound to bust a prostate.

He's totally out of control in a whole range of threads. It seems that their mods are powerless or don't care. The BFF needs a leader to set the tone.

The greatest "out" in interpreting cast textures as "dermal ridges" that I've run across is to simply interpret them as "dysplasia."

Remember, we had textures on the Skookum elk cast being interpreted as "dermals."

If you have no specimen of Sasquatch on the slab, you can claim any texture you want as "dermal ridges." Any size, any shape, any distribution.

....

You're right, I'm the newest moderator there, but I figured I'd wait until you got a whole list of stuff together for me to do before I started making your changes to another forum. Thanks though. :)

You think those are dermals, and you think primates and possibly koalas leave dermals. What left them in those tracks?

I'll take a guess if WP doesn't mind.

A finger?

Hunster, Mike Dennett is deceased.

Remember, it's been more than 10 years since the notion that "dermal ridges" are strong evidence of authenticity of a purported Sasquatch track has been promoted, much of it on national TV and by a fingerprint examiner. If a determined hoaxer wanted to fabricate tracks that appeared authentic, they might attempt to include "dermal ridges."

Thom Powell owns a cast which he allowed me to photograph some years ago, which he calls the "Bee Creek" cast. It certainly looks like it has dermal ridges in it:

Unfortunately I was caught off guard, and didn't include a ruler in the photos. But they seemed to be roughly the same size and shape as human dermal ridges. I'm not in a position to PROVE they were human dermal ridges, but it seems at least possible.

Something I never got around to experimenting with was fabricating prosthetic feet with elastomeric casting compounds like this:

One could use ordinary potter's clay to create a female mold, and cast the impression with something that's between latex rubber and a skateboard wheel in hardness. Textures as fine as human dermal ridges can certainly be impressed into clay, or if you really want to go to town, you could use Silly Putty.

I have not personally done this, so I can't PROVE that's it's possible to do. I kind of lost interest in pursuing the issue some years ago.

Again, that's only one possibility, and I know for a fact that there are people out there that are more clever and technically inclined than I am.

I think the textures in the track are intriguing, just like the textures in Powell's Bee Creek cast, but I don't think they are strong evidence of Sasquatch.

The hoaxing will never stop, and it will evolve. But when the technique for producing dermal ridges is perfected, what will that say about the hundreds of casts Meldrum has, that don't have dermal ridges?????????????????????

Perhaps the believers will suggest that Bigfoot has suddenly evolved dermal ridges.

WGBH is back. What happened? We were talking about your sighting, and then you disappeared.

Tube.

If you have the time or want to do so regarding "dermal ridges" experimentation, try this. Make or use if you have them and leave them out in the weather for several months totally exposed to the sunlight , rain , snow etc.
Once done, take some silicone caulking and cover the "foot" for at least two inches above the bottom and let it dry (cover lightly with cooking spray first.) Remove the new mold from the foot and tack the edges down on the opposite foot , assuming you have a set of them and not just one.

The grain from the wood will show in the silicone and allow you to walk and leave tracks with what appears to be a flexible "foot" with dermals in it depending on the soil condition.

And No , before it starts. I've never used them anywhere except my garden area in the back of my house to try this. Just to quell the thoughts that I've hoaxed with them in the past or something.

This sounds fun. But I think you left out a section at the beginning. Between 'try this' and 'leave them out' is a missing portion.
