There is not a single mass grave of holohoax victims.

Actually, we've won on every level. All of Nick's stream of consciousness can be answered with a condescending smile and a "That's nice, dear. Now, where are the bodies?"

Yes, so where are all these bodies? Please provide evidence of where they all went, where are the people? Can you tell us? LOL

Denial isn't debate Dogzilla - but then you already know that....

OK troll, where are the two hectares of human ash and forensically verified remains? Show us the report.
Saggy quote-mined the report of the Polish investigation of Treblinka hundreds of posts ago, and posted a link to it that refuted his major claim in this thread. It's been posted more than once since then.

As if evidence makes a shred of difference to you.

Gentleman I think the discussion has devolved into simple denialism by Saggy and Dogzilla - they are just repeating the same claims over and over again while ignoring all evidence to the contrary.

If the contention is that a large percentage of the bodies were burned, then isn't "where are the bodies" a bizarre response? If your contention is that those commonly believed to have been killed were not killed, why do you not tell us where the living bodies went?

I already answered. It's good when perception and reality are in sync. Since everybody thinks the holocaust happened, it's a bad thing that it didn't. It would be better, however, if everybody knew that it hadn't.

That's a weaselly answer.
Let's assume you are correct, and it didn't happen.
Do you think it a good thing or a bad thing it didn't happen?

Having read Art Spiegelman's MAUS: A Survivor's Tale, it is impossible for me to accept the claim that the Holocaust is fiction, that no mass graves were ever filled with huge numbers of murdered Jews. I've thought critically about that claim, and compared it both to the available historical material, and to Vladek Spiegelman's anecdotal accounts of his experiences.

Vladek Spiegelman's account of his experiences as a Polish Jew sent to Auschwitz (recorded on tape by the book's author, Vladek's son Art, who turned the recordings into a comic-book narrative) are too detailed and precise to have been invented or hallucinated. Spiegelman relates hundreds of pages worth of harrowing, intimate, excruciating details about his life in Poland, where he and his family and friends were systematically persecuted by the Germans; and later, in Auschwitz. There Speigelman saw other prisoners starved, beaten, stripped of their humanity, murdered capriciously, shot, gassed, burned alive.

Vladek gives an eyewitness account (as a "tinman") of the workings of the gas house and crematorium (MAUS II, pp. 69-72):

NARRATOR (Vladek Spiegelman): "And everybody crowded inside the shower room, the door closed hermetic, and the lights turned dark. It was between 3 and 30 minutes -- it depended how much gas they put -- but soon was nobody anymore alive."

INFO CAPTION: "Zyklon B, a pesticide, dropped into hollow columns."

NARRATOR (Vladek): "The biggest pile of bodies lay right next to the door where they tried to get out. This guy who worked there, he told me..."

WORKER: "We pulled the bodies apart with hooks. Big piles, with the strongest on top, older ones and babies crushed below.... often the skulls were smashed... their fingers were broken from trying to climb up the walls... and sometimes their arms were as long as their bodies, pulled from the sockets."

VLADEK: "ENOUGH!"

NARRATOR (Vladek): "I didn't want more to hear, but anyway he told me. They pulled the bodies with an elevator up to the ovens -- many ovens -- and to each one they burned 2 or 3 at a time. To such a place finished my father, my sisters, my brothers, so many"

VLADEK: "What are they doing over there -- digging trenches in case the Russians attack?"

WORKER: "Trenches... HAH! Those are giant GRAVES they're filling in! It started in May and went on all summer. They brought Jews from Hungary -- too many for their ovens, so they dug those big cremation pits."

NARRATOR (Vladek): "The holes were big, so like the swimming pool of the Pines Hotel here. And train after train of Hungarians came. And those what finished in the gas chambers before they got pushed in these graves, it was the LUCKY ones. The others had to jump in the graves while still they were alive... prisoners what worked there poured gasoline over the live ones and the dead ones. And the fat from the burning bodies they scooped and poured again so everyone could burn better."

Vladek was not a historian or a scholar, he did not obtain his details from other accounts or imagine them. At the time his son Art made the recordings Vladek was retired and living in New York. Vladek's wife, Mala, was also a holocaust survivor, as were several of their friends.

One of more unintentionally hilarious things I have ever read.

Here are some of bodies at Treblinka. (You really need to do some basic research and not rely on CODOH.)

I'm going to click on that link. I swear to Dog the picture better not be the one I think it is. If it is I hope at least it doesn't crop the people out of the frame.

These pictures are suppose to be evidence of a mass grave(s) big enough to hold 700,000 people. Let's see what we got.

OK. It wasn't the one I thought it was going to be. But it's from the same series of photographs that are trotted out every time somebody thinks they have proof of mass graves.

Looks like we have maybe two dead Jews in here. Where are the pictures of the mass graves for the other 699,998 bodies?

"Where are the bodies?" is a poorly worded question on my part. The narrative says that all the bodies were incinerated completely leaving no trace before the camp was dismantled. But it says that at least 700,000 bodies were buried first, then dug up and burned.

So when I ask where the bodies are, I really mean where are the holes that served as the mass graves for 700,000 bodies. Even if there is no trace of the bodies today, there would still be evidence of those giant pits.

"<squawk!> Holohoax!"

"<squawk!> No mass graves!"

"<squawk!> Jewish conspiracy!"

No mass graves of holocaust victims large enough to hold all the bodies were shown earlier in this thread or anywhere on this thread or anywhere on any thread on any web discussion forum or any usenet discussion board ever anywhere on the internet since the beginning of the internet or published in any book or newspaper or magazine or any pamphlet or greeting card or shown on television or in any movie or described in any radio broadcast ever at all since 1945 until this very minute. Never. None.

Denial.

You have described "forensic" reports which have never been made available. You have shown photographs that may or may not be mass graves at places that may or may not be the camps which are too small to prove anything.

More denial.

That's why Saggy and I always win.

And even more denial.

It doesn't look good for you in this thread, Dogzilla.

I already answered. It's good when perception and reality are in sync. Since everybody thinks the holocaust happened, it's a bad thing that it didn't. It would be better, however, if everybody knew that it hadn't.

Aww, shucks! Here I thought you were at least honest when you claimed to believe that the holocaust happened but didn't believe in gas chambers. Now the truth rears its ugly head.

So when I ask where the bodies are, I really mean where are the holes that served as the mass graves for 700,000 bodies. Even if there is no trace of the bodies today, there would still be evidence of those giant pits.
So if someone digs a hole and doesn't find any bodies, you would accept that as evidence of the holocaust.
:dig:

So you agree there is a series of photographs, of mass graves including body bits, from Treblinka. That's interesting. So you simply lied when you said there is no mass grave at Treblinka? Did you apply your "math" skills to all the photos in conjuction with the Polish report? May I see your conclusions? Were you going to copy this page?

Only in your imagination.

But let's ask you 'OK, now what?' Just for the sake of argument. You know full well I and others won't actually go 'gosh, you are so right', but let's pretend. You win. Now what?

What I truly don't understand is the logic of fussing over the size of mass graves. The denier argument doesn't go anywhere. The graves are supposedly too small therefore what?

If the graves were too small to hold the bodies of all the people that were buried there, it means that 1) not as many people were murdered there or 2) if they were murdered there, they weren't buried there. It doesn't mean that the holocaust didn't happen. It means that our understanding of what happened is incorrect. It's about getting the facts straight. Frankly I don't understand the 'so what if we're wrong' attitude. I don't know how anybody could question the desirability of knowing the truth.

Such a claim doesn't bring anyone back to life. It doesn't prove anything, doesn't tell us what happened to the victims, doesn't point us in any direction for further investigation, doesn't substantiate any significant theory. It is purely negative, and argued most often simply out of spite and malice, as a symbolic desecration and defamation of the dead.

You're probably the most knowledgeable believer here. The fact that you don't really care about an accurate understanding of the event reveals an overall lack of concern about accuracy in the holocaust historiography. Wanting to know the truth isn't purely negative. It's not something motivated by spite and malice. An accurate understanding of what happened is a way to honor the victims. Not caring about what happened is an act of desecration.

Evidently, you're quite content to go 'ha! gotcha!' and sit back smugly ignoring the fact that millions of people are still missing, and you haven't done a single thing to find them.

What have you done to try and find the three million people who evidently didn't die at Auschwitz or the 1.9 million that people now say didn't die at Majdanek?

This indifference and lack of follow-through, this refusal to even try to explain what happened, or even to come up with a testable hypothesis about what happened, is why denial is essentially nihilistic.

There's no reason to explain what happened to anybody if they're not missing.

That immediately casts severe doubt on the plausibility of the claims made by deniers regarding the mass grave sites (or cremation facilities), even if we ignore for the moment the obvious motivations of someone like Saggy to make such claims.

We cannot dismiss somebody's quest for the truth no matter what the motivation. If the truth is that there are no bodies buried at these camps, there's no doubt somebody might try to exploit that truth for anti-Semitic purposes. But that doesn't mean that truth itself is anti-Semitic and it's sure as Hell no reason to not want the truth to be revealed.

It really doesn't help if you spout nonsense like 'You have described "forensic" reports which have never been made available'. What does 'made available' mean here? To whom? In what form?

I mean the forensic studies that have been conducted on the death camps by the Poles, the Soviets, the Germans, or anybody who has conducted any such forensic test. The Polish investigation of Treblinka in 1945 or the Kola study of Belzec in the late 1990s are just two examples. If there's a forensic study that I'm told will prove to me just how wrong I am, I want to see that study. The whole thing, not just excerpts or somebody's summary. They need to be available to somebody in the United States and they need to be in English. I could do French or German if I really needed to but my reading comprehension is so limited that it wouldn't work. Ideally, I'd like to be able to download them in PDF format at no cost but I'm willing to pay.

And don't tell me that I can't learn any of this stuff without being able to read twenty languages or travel to various archives. There are alot of people in the United States who speak only English who have bought into the standard narrative. There should be enough English language material to convince me.

The sites were all in Eastern Europe, the reports would, logically, be in Polish and Russian in their original forms. Do you read those languages?

I'm an American. We don't do foreign languages.

Do you know where the reports might be located?

I imagine in Poland or Russia.

Is it a big coverup? Can you even name who was involved in investigating which site? Or are those pieces of information also covered up and beyond your ken?

A conspiracy to prevent disclosure of information that would convince all holocaust deniers of the error of their ways would be about the stupidest cover-up in the world. That's even dumber than the CTers who think denial is a neo-Nazi conspiracy to whitewash National Socialism to make it a viable political option so they can take over and finish the job.

If these reports are available I haven't been able to find them so you could say that they are beyond my ken.

Frankly I don't understand the 'so what if we're wrong' attitude. I don't know how anybody could question the desirability of knowing the truth.

One more for the road...

Problem is, you aren't coordinating all the facts, and you're not arguing with facts. You're arguing using your own interpretation of some facts and then wishing away all the other facts.

You're probably the most knowledgeable believer here. The fact that you don't really care about an accurate understanding of the event reveals an overall lack of concern about accuracy in the holocaust historiography.

I think the above is one of the most silly pieces of nonsense I have read from you yet.

Wanting to know the truth isn't purely negative. It's not something motivated by spite and malice. An accurate understanding of what happened is a way to honor the victims. Not caring about what happened is an act of desecration.

If you're such a truthseeker, then why are you still fixated on mass graves at just a couple of sites?

For starters, any argument about the graves has to examine them as a set in order to be coherent, because all of the other evidence points to them being a set and because it's simply plate-spinning to go from one site to the next and back again without evaluating them as a group.

Any argument claiming that the graves couldn't have held enough bodies is totally incomplete and incoherent. The immediate, logical question is then where are they? Are they alive or dead? If you have no answer to this question, then you should return to your original interpretation and ask yourself whether you might be wrong.

Quite a few posters have made this same point in a variety of different ways, but you refuse to address it.

What have you done to try and find the three million people who evidently didn't die at Auschwitz or the 1.9 million that people now say didn't die at Majdanek?

I don't need to do anything. Those figures were produced at a time before there was a systematic demography of civilian casualties and of population movements in WWII. The matter is self-evidently cleared up by a process of elimination in matching deportation statistics for Jews and non-Jews from all countries which experienced deportations.

Your question, in effect, boils down to 'have you read Reitlinger and Hilberg?' because they cleared it up a very long time ago - fifty plus years ago. Or 'have you read Frumkin?' because there are plenty of studies of the demographic losses from WWII as a whole, starting in the 1940s. The answer is, yes I have read Frumkin, and many other such studies.

There's no reason to explain what happened to anybody if they're not missing.

But they are missing, and you have not provided any evidence to the contrary. That's why it's nihilistic to focus only on mass graves, and in the current rhetorical slippage, only at Treblinka.

The above is typical of you. I wrote a two clause sentence:

That immediately casts severe doubt on the plausibility of the claims made by deniers regarding the mass grave sites (or cremation facilities), even if we ignore for the moment the obvious motivations of someone like Saggy to make such claims.

the second clause of which said, leaving aside the obvious motivation of Saggy.

I stated that the evident indifference and lack of follow-through in this discussion, the refusal to try and explain what happened or to come up with a testable hypothesis, makes denial nihilistic.

That to my mind casts doubt on whether denier interpretations of mass grave evidence are plausible.

This isn't an ad hominem argument ('U R antisemits nur nur'), it's an observation on the apparent chain of deductions you are making, since the deductions don't go anywhere. All you say is 'no mass graves nur nur', and stop.

You then blithely assert there are no missing when generations of missing persons bureau research as well as historical research says otherwise.

And don't tell me that I can't learn any of this stuff without being able to read twenty languages or travel to various archives. There are alot of people in the United States who speak only English who have bought into the standard narrative. There should be enough English language material to convince me.

Your claim was that no reports have been shown. As expected, this translated into 'shown to me personally by spoonfeeding'.

I think you'd find that the actual reports have been discussed in quite a few books on the subject, both from mainstream historians and by deniers. They are excerpted online all over the place. There have been links given previously. The summaries you can read also online from German Crimes in Poland are accurate summaries of the 'protokoly' from 1945.

I would ask you to parse the evidence previously posted in the following link
http://holocaustcontroversies.blogspot.com/2010/05/mass-graves-at-nazi-extermination-camps.html
By parse I mean identify what reports are referred to and how much of them is recapitulated - by an amateur blogger who is not a professional historian. This is the obvious starting point for your 'shopping list'.

I'm an American. We don't do foreign languages.

But here you are discussing events which are essentially part of Polish and Soviet history.

By the way, please don't engage in special pleading about the significance of the Holocaust in western culture. There has been a lengthy discussion of Stalin's crimes since the 1930s and 1940s which thus also revolved around issues of megadeaths and mass murder in faraway places.

I imagine in Poland or Russia.

Which would be appropriate given the location of the sites, no?

Then the issue is for you to trace the discussion of these reports from 1945 onwards, bearing in mind the Cold War, subsequent war crimes trials and in what countries they were held, the language barriers that might follow from this, and finally whether it's normal to see much discussion from historians/social scientists/journalists of mass graves for comparable events, like the many other genocides and crimes against humanity in the 20th Century.

A conspiracy to prevent disclosure of information that would convince all holocaust deniers of the error of their ways would be about the stupidest cover-up in the world.

Holocaust denial isn't a very big phenomenon, and it is fairly easy to establish by reading what deniers have written that they will blindly deny evidence when it is put in front of them.

As far as I can make out, deniers didn't give a flying monkeys' about mass graves until the late 1980s, which is several decades into the existence of the movement. That was after they were failing badly to explain away all the documents and witnesses. So the last refuge was the physical evidence.

For much of the past 25 years, deniers obsessed over Auschwitz. Having failed to make a case on Auschwitz, they moved on in the 2000s to Treblinka, Belzec and Sobibor.

That's even dumber than the CTers who think denial is a neo-Nazi conspiracy to whitewash National Socialism to make it a viable political option so they can take over and finish the job.

Yet neo-Nazis are on record as saying revisionism is precisely about making Nazism acceptable again. It's not the fault of observers who notice these things if the neo-Nazis in question (or the German ultranationalists, the antisemites, the Israel haters, the contrarians, the trolls or the simply cognitively challenged) think they can wave a wand and intone 'no mass graves, no mass graves' and the world will be set to rights somehow.

The stupidity is in the denial itself.

If these reports are available I haven't been able to find them so you could say that they are beyond my ken

Then you clearly didn't read the links provided earlier, one of which I have now reposted.

You still haven't answered the main question of my post. What would it prove if the mass graves were smaller? You replied with a lot of waffle about 'wanting to know the truth'. That isn't a statement which involves proof, it simply postpones the issue into an apparently ever-receding future.

I'd like to see a coherent chain of reasoning from you before we get down to the nitpicking details.

"Where are the bodies?" is a poorly worded question on my part. The narrative says that all the bodies were incinerated completely leaving no trace before the camp was dismantled.

Except for all the traces they did leave, and which have been subsequently found.
