Wasn't that the intention of the Bush rebate checks? To temporarily inflate the economy by giving people a big check and telling them to buy stuff?

I reiterate:

Bush gave me $600 in 2001 (cut the lowest tax rate from 15% to 10%). Bush gave me In 2008, he gave me $1200 (economic stimulus). Obama still owes me $200, and doesn't give me the "free summer money" option.

Giving you a lower tax rate to buy cheap Chinese crap does not build infrastructure here, so what does it stimulate?

Now a tax credit for physical plant especially in high-tech manufacturing makes sense.

What needed to be done cost money. The poor were in no position to pay for it, and the rich had beenefitted from the structures that screwed up the ecconomy.

There was, thus, nothing else to do about it.

So why did Mr. Obama give working individuals $3-$5 extra per paycheck?

Why do you want to give tax breaks to the rich? Shouldn't they just hand over their money so the government can open a plant owned by the people rather than profiting from an investment/business venture?

Pay for one meal for a working person, and you help farmers out

Makes more sense than giving them a big tax break and hoping that they will decide to make more money by actually doing something that creates jobs. They never really have that I can remember.
 
Do you actually think that the Shrub would have accepted a SOFA with a sunset clause if there were not Seantors telling him that they would not ratify it otherwise? Do you remember who went to Iraq to discuss whether anyone in the nerw administration would be bound by the open-ended SOFA?

I understand the meal argument, but I`d prefer free summer money more. Besides, what about the elderly, unemployed, and single stay at home mothers? Seems kind of unfair to me. I don`t understand the farmer comment though. Bush cut the capital gains rates to stimulate the economy in the fashion you described. Although capital gains are attributed to stock sales by most people, they also apply to sales of business equipment. The thought process was that a business owner could sell old equipment with less tax penalty to buy new equipment. This would spur manufacturing.

Well now, thanks for putting the E in JREF. I've been educated. I wasn't aware that the Bush administration signed a treaty to make sure that the future, but not yet elected, President could keep a campaign promise.

Really, who knew? I thank you for that.

Without pressure from the Senate, I do not believe for an instant that he would have set a withdrawl date. That was never part of their intent when the nitwits invaded.

There are other threads running right now on this forum to the effect that those who oppose Obama's policies are all morons or evil or racists (there aren't enough Black people agreeing with them, you see).

In other words, when Obama tells the other side they're idiots, it's a strong statement of the unpleasant truth. When the other side tells Obama he's an idiot, it's racism.

As for myself I fail to see much of a difference here. Telling the other side they're idiots is, in effect, what politics is about.

There are definately people out there who are blinded by the color of Obamas skin. Even though it's plainly obvious, you'll never be able to convince them.
 
Well, the birfers and people with posters of the Obama-as-witch-doctor picture and signs suggesting that he is a Muslim, or saying "The zoo has an African Lion and the White House has a Lying African" don't help the teabagger's image as a non-racist lot, do they?
