They just want to get control back. Their strategy is to make the government FAIL, this is evidenced by the record number of filibusters, even to policies they've supported in the past.

Who said anything about government hiring? I said that spending $250,000 per job created is a lousy return on the investment.

If the government spent that money on building a massive secret mind-control device that made everybody search for a job a lot harder and therefore 3.3 million more might have gotten a job, it would still not be worth $800,000,000,000 of tax money.

Funny, for the most part, american democrats bemoan their politicians for having no backbone, and continually caving in. Obama spent two years trying to accommodate the wishes of the right wing.

Meanwhile, after observing that trying to work with the right wing is a total failure, the democrats actually make sounds about using the super majority in both houses to do something.

IIRC there was a real push to put billions more into food stamps and unemployment benefits, which would have had more immediate impact on the economy and would have created more jobs by CBO estimate, but the right didn't want to create a "welfare state." So, we spent money that less directly created jobs. So, either you can hand out the money or you can filter it through profitable organizations. One creates more jobs per dollars, but is unpalatable to conservatives. The other creates lots of profit in the private sector and a bit fewer jobs, but is more palatable to the conservatives. When you have to get around a veto you do the best you can.

Although I don`t agree 100% with Bush or Obama`s economic policies, I greatly enjoyed my multiple stimulus checks I personally recieved under Bush. When is Obama gonna pay up??? I`ve also learned years ago that if somebody claims that it was his/her opposition`s fault entirely, it`s usually a lie.

And a lot of them were sent packing in the last election.

And some of them come from districts where the voting process is, at best, flawed.

Occassionally the least desireable elements in society convince the rest that they should be in charge. My concern right now is that people not be fooled by these idiots again in Novemeber. The GOP have proven themselves not to be up to the job of governing a civilized nation. They need to go home until they grow up. (Or sober up, in the case of the orange guy.)

The GOP hates working people and will screw them at every chance. This is bad for America. No country ever failed because the poor had too much, yet here we have a bunch of whiney babies crying that the reason we are going in the toilet is that the rich don't have enough.

They have more now than they had when we were doing well as a nation, so why should any adult care about their snivelling now?

Obama gave a great speech today punching the GOP right between the eyes. He pointed out that it was the GOP and it's ideology that led to the great recession.

See? People are using it as a phrase!

That it was their economic policies that we tried that brought our country to the toilet.

One could suggest that Bush's massive, wild deviation from conservative economics is what caused this, and that more of the same, or even further deviation, would only make things worse.

There are far too few data points. Would the Great Depression (note the caps) have ended sooner without such massive taxation being applied to the wealthy? Hold on there, pardner!
