Secondly, if there was an ad hominem argument being made, it would imply Terry Jones has made some kind of reasoned argument to be addressed in the first place.

My comment about the mustache was just insult and a joking argument. If it were a serious argument, then indeed it would have been ad hominem. I was so close! I'll try harder next time.

Seriously, what's to argue with here? Anyone in an argument with someone who supports the actions of this mustachioed villain is wasting their time. It's like discussing genetic cladistics with a YEC.

Just because you can do a thing does not necessarily mean that you should do that thing.

1st Amendment rights include the right to say it and not be punished physically for it. The US (we-as in all of us) is required to protect him from fahtwahs issued because of his speech.

I lived in Gainesville, Florida, and I'm fairly certain I know who this group is. There was this hateful Baptist group in town that were like a slightly less incindiary version of Fred Phelps' "Westboro Baptist Church." They were always outside other religious buildings - the Catholic Church, Jewish Temple, Hare Krishna House, etc, with signs screaming about how these various religions were going to hell. They also were on campus all the time (I went to University of Florida) screaming about how evil and hellbound various groups were: disobedient women, Buddhists, Jews, Catholics, Muslims, scientists Harry Potter, people who have premarital sex or use birth control, etc etc.

I don't know how big this group actually is. It was always the same handful of people at these demonstrations, and there was one preacher in particular who was in one of our main plazas on campus virtually every day.

What amazed me is that he actually convinced people sometimes! He'd be up there screaming condemnations, and then he'd hell out, "Now who has heard my message and wants to be saved!" And a lot of times a person or two would actually come forward.

However, the majority of people just ignored or heckled them.

I am not 100% sure this is the same group because they never had name tags or anything, but I'm pretty sure they are, because they're the only Baptist church in town that is this inflamatory. Also, when I've seen press pictures of the Dove Outreach church recently, they have some of the exact same signs and slogans as the group I discuss above. I suppose it's POSSIBLE that another group with the same signs and slogans from another town came to our town almost every day, so I can't say with absolute certainty they are one at the same, but I am almost certain they are.

The thing I think was the worst was their treatment of the Hare Krishnas. The Hare Krishnas would have a free vegetarian lunch on our college campus. They had a suggested donation of $2, but it wasn't enforced. They never prosletyzed either. They had some pamphlets there that you could take, but they never pushed them on anyone or talked about their religion. They just served us rice and lentils and sang songs. But this group would come and scream at them with these huge wooden crosses they'd bring with them, about how horrible they were. They also did this every Friday, when the Hare Krishnas would have a sort of religious drum circle. Again, they weren't pushing anything on anyone. They just would meet at this one place every friday and dance and sing and play music. Meanwhile, this church would stand nearby yelling at them that they're going to hell and harassing anyone who walked by.

Are you implying that he does not have a legitimate degree that warrants the title?

If so, please enlighten us.

(I have no love for the guy, but accusations about fake degrees don't impress me; these things can be checked, with a little information)
