NEWT GINGRICH: It will presently sink in on people that, you know, shooting three-point shots may be clever, but it doesn’t put anybody to work. And what we need is a President, not an athlete. We need somebody who actually focuses on getting people back to work.

"But I’m not sure what he means by this particular soundbite and I think it’s open to some criticism because it suggests that the President is an athlete and some people may suggest, you know, because all black people are good athletes. I mean that’s what it sort of sounds like to me." Nora O'Donnell, the guest host on the April 9 Morning Joe,

O'Donnell, using the cowardly phrase "some people" is superimposing her own belief in a stereotype onto Gingrich.

Mike Barnicle tried in vain to educate O'Donnell.

BARNICLE: "You can easily disprove that President Obama is an athlete by showing his first pitch. (Laughter) You can show that clip. He is not an athlete."

While this quote mining isn't indicative of Gingrich's racism, I think he's demonstrated his bigotry throughout his career.

I agree that she really swung and missed on this one.
Gingrich has said plenty of other things that are much easier to chalk up to racism.

Is that part located somewhere else on the internets? I missed the Barnicle part on your 29 second video link.

None the less, I AM OUTRAGED!1!11

Liberals like O'Donnell have applied the racist/bigot label with such indiscriminate zeal that there is no meaning left attached to these words. When a public figure actually makes racist comments or engages in racist activities, nobody will listen to these liberal pundits/reporters/anchors/journalists after all these cries of wolf.

lol the only people that use this argument are those who want to ignore racism. Overt racism is pretty unambiguous and the thought of someone ignoring it by claiming it's because the word has little meaning due to it's overuse is laugable. The cry wolf scenario would hold water if it was in reference to an individual rather then society in general. But that's not the case.

I'll agree there are some who use the word to the point of being numb to accusations but I certainly wouldn't say the word is meaningless because of these people.

Jesus Christ, I can't believe I went five months without knowing this about Nora O'Donnell.

In other news, the point of the story of the boy who cried wolf is not that, when the villagers finally saw the wolf, they didn't believe it was a wolf because the boy was a known liar. That would make the villagers idiots. The point is that they didn't come running to see if there was a wolf because they didn't believe the boy.

If some dirty liberal told you that Newt Gingrich said something racist but didn't tell you what it was, and you didn't believe that dirty liberal, then we'd have a boy-who-cried-wolf situation. But if someone displays an actual racist statement as described in post 8, and you don't believe it's actually racist because those dirty liberals have lied so much in the past, then it's not a boy-who-cried-wolf situation. It's a the-villagers-are-idiots situation.

So the socialist/unamerican labels used by conservatives no longer have meaning also... Right?

I just realized why I hadn't heard of this story yet...

It happened last April !1!11 I'm not too outraged anymore.

But then I discovered this gem...turns out Drew Brees (Superbowl MVP) thinks Obama is a good athlete too, and he's a Saint!11111!!11

And coach Payton actually says, "He's from Chicago, though you know, he can't be a bad athlete"...

awkward pause....crickets, crickets, crickets

John King: "Aight, he's got a bit of 'street sense' then maybe"

Cicero, get this posted over at freeperland quick...
Let the OUTRAGE BEGIN AGAIN

Hate to be the one to break this to you, but this happened about five months ago. Ancient idiocy from O'Donnell (who is indeed a fathead).

Additionally, ts;dr

This just in (5-21-08) O'Donnell says, " He [Obama] did very well with the white women". "He did over 49% of the white women in Oregon compared to Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania"....

We all know the white girls like some dark meat right? (at least out west)

Once you go black...

right about :55

It sure is. Yet since many liberals see the world through the prism of race, "overt racism" is not sufficient enough for them to be outraged; they manufacture racism where none exists.

It's a free country. You don't have to agree.

Not only did you not notice the story back in April, you didn't notice it says April 9 in the OP? Your powers of observation are on par with O'Donnell's.

Of course conservatives don't see the world through the prism of race. A prism shows you colors, they only recognize white.

Thank god for small favors.
