Tony Blair: GW Bush was brave and simple

It's easy just to do nothing. The status quo regarding Iraq was not a tenable long-term solution. The region requires transformation and Saddam drew the short straw.
So who appointed the idot-in-chief to be the arbiter of that?

But you have to try it, before you know if it works or not.

I have never tried running through the streets naked while covered in blue paint as a means of solving the world´s economic problems. Yet I know it will not work. Why do you think this is so?

It might do. It's got as good a chance as anything else.

Try it! It worked for the Picts.

But you have to try it, before you know if it works or not.

Just about nothing the GOP has suggested has ever worked. Supply-side ecconomics has been a bloodty disaster, and the Shrub drove the world's best army to the brink of destruction wioth his lack of ability to learn from history.

Republican policies are grounded in superstition.

What will work, then? How do you know?

That would depend on what is meant by 'worked' and 'disaster'. No ideology covers all sections of society equally well - some will always suffer more than others. To some, supply-side economics worked perfectly, to others, not so much.

Republican policies are grounded in superstition.

All ideologies are. No ideology can be said to 'work', since it would require absolute control over the environment, without any influences from other competing ideologies. That has never happened, and never will.

The New Deal worked. Working people were kept from starving, we ended up with the best industrial infrastructure in the world and we armed the rest of the world to defeat an enemy that had, to all appearances, all but won the war.

Then along comes supply-side BS and it all turned to compost.

It didn't work.

All judgment calls.

How's that judgment call working for you?

Thirty years after the jelly-brain from California introduced us to the concept of supply-side ecconomics, the country is broke. That aint a judgement call. Supply-side is a superstition.

Am I to understand that you place the entire blame for the current situation on what happened thirty years ago? There has not been any influence whatsoever since then? No subsequent political programs can be said to have had any effect?

That aint a judgement call. Supply-side is a superstition.

Which political ideology is not?

Of course there have been other influences.

For about eight years some incompetent boob who couldn't find oil in Suadia Arabia went on a spending spree on our credit card and out-did his demented role model and left us so deep in debt that my grandson might not live to see it paid off.

Which political ideology is not?

The New Deal and trade unions gave us the largest and wealthiest middle class the world had seen. Objectively, it worked.

Objectively, supply-side didn't.

Supply-side is superstition.

Of course there have been other influences.

In which case you cannot lay the blame on one policy alone.

The US has been in debt longer than that:

Clearly, you are working from a false assumption.

The New Deal and trade unions gave us the largest and wealthiest middle class the world had seen. Objectively, it worked.

For the middle class, perhaps, and only if you can isolate the influences of both New Deal and the trade unions. You cannot.

Objectively, supply-side didn't.

False. You cannot call it 'objectively'.

Supply-side is superstition.

As are all other political ideologies.

We know, without having to try it, that zero-input energy production doesn't work.

(Unless you are afflicted with the same malady that afflicts John Hutchison.)

Are you saying that economic theories are as testable as scientific concepts?

That is not what I asked.

Of course you didn´t. You made a claim, which you are now trying to weasel out of.

You claimed it is impossible to know if something will work without trying it. This was refuted. Admit it, or provide evidence to the contrary... or admit you are just another partisan hack who is not here to actually have a discussion.

I think we can do without being condescending.

You claimed it is impossible to know if something will work without trying it. This was refuted. Admit it, or provide evidence to the contrary...

No, it was merely brushed aside with a bold assessment. That does not make it true.

or admit you are just another partisan hack who is not here to actually have a discussion.

I also think we can do without casting suspicion on others.

Back to the issue: What will work, then? How do you know?

I think we can do without being condescending.

Sure. Why don´t you stop, then? Argue honestly and don´t run away from your claims.

No, it was merely brushed aside with a bold assessment. That does not make it true.

You think, then, that running through the streets naked while covered in blue paint has be to tried as an economic policy before it can be discarded as useless?

I also think we can do without casting suspicion on others.

Back to the issue: What will work, then? How do you know?

We can also do without your dishonest debating tactics. I´m not going to be the only gullible sucker who plays fair.
