What's your problem with Glenn Beck?

I remember The Daily Show did a bit with him (as a CNN correspondant) talking about how the US health system was so godawful bad. Then when he went to Fox, suddenly the US had the best health system in the world.
See the link in #33.

Now, understanding that he is a mormon and knowing what a mormon believes, I'm astonished that any intelligent person could believe anything the LDS church teaches.

There are a great many people, far more intelligent than you, who are active, practicing Mormons, and who believe and accept the teachings and practices of this religion.

Mormonism is one of the most socialist religions on earth. Surely someone as versed in history like Beck claims, would be aware of the influence his church had on government programs and polices during the early 20th century.

His anti socialism screed only works if there is religious socialism to pick up what he would have government discard.

I always thought of it as more fascist. The corporate theocratic state. As long as you are obedient to doctrine, you will be taken care of.

Take Beck at his word: He says he's an entertainer and you should not believe a word he says....advice BAC chooses to ignore.

He was. That seems to be changing.

Whenever he was accused of bad or opinionated reporting, he would emphasize he's not a journalist.

Now, he's hired a bunch of journalists and created a new web site: The Blaze. I expect it will be used in a similar way as Fox: get The Blaze to present the world the way he wants it presented, then point to it and say "See! This is what real journalists say!"

Since I believe Beck is mostly a construct of his media company, imho there must be one or more large discrepancies between the real Beck, and the media Beck. As his image is stretched and puffed more and more, so will the tensions between the image and the man.

I predict that stretch is now so great, that very soon it must pop, and we will have tons of crying and apologizing from Beck trying to repair it, probably taking the humbling route with claims like "I'm sorry I failed, but I'm just a man like you. And we can all be redeemed!"

I think we reached this point some time in the past year since his calling Obama a racist. He seems to have moved into a direction of "I'm just a stupid guy who has found god. And you can, too." Of course, he then continues to spread fallacious political and social claims.

That's what I think. I remember The Daily Show did a bit with him (as a CNN correspondant) talking about how the US health system was so godawful bad. Then when he went to Fox, suddenly the US had the best health system in the world.

The man wants money. To get it, he finds a group of unhappy people, figures out how to milk their unhappiness and BOOM, he's a leader. Rush Limbaugh is almost certainly the same. I don't believe for an instant that they truly believe the stuff they are saying. They are just media whores. Same for Keith Olberman too. Equal time, ya know.
Okay, just for the sake of argument, what has Olbermann done to warrant this comparison?

This is pretty comical, though, if you want to talk about him flip-flipping -

I challenge any Beck follower to watch The Daily Show for a month and see if they still think Beck is honest. Same for any Fox follower, really.

Stewart is like a major league hitter being thrown softballs when it comes to Beck. Lately he seems ashamed at how easy it is to point out Beck's lies and flip flops.

Amen. You may be able to find a couple minute bits of people of major figures on the left deciding to forgo integrity to promote viewership, but Beck does it all the time.

That Beck is willing to do anything to increase his viewership of the very large political niche (assuming 100 million Americans (about a third) are essentially right-wingers), just smacks of his total lack of integrity. Because keep in mind that getting just half of them to watch your program would make you #1 show anywhere.

Why do I dislike Glen Beck?

His distorted view of American history.
His haphazard interpretation of the Constitution and the Bill of rights.
His continual use of sophistry and fallacious arguments.
His disengenuosness.
His hypocracy.

Meh ... that seems more like a poor choice of words, an exaggeration, or puffery to me. Seems like a pretty trivial thing to make much over, really.
