Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

Hey there, A Lurker! I believe your blockage is due to end today, isn't it?

I hope so, or failing that, I hope a member of the great unblocked will quote you for the sake of DOC's enhanced viewingness.

Alas, I can be of no help in this regard.

:)

I'm presenting historical evidence, the weight you give to that historical evidence is up to you.
No you're not, hence no it isn't. Fundamentally, one cannot validly cite references from a document as evidence of said document's veracity. It essentially begs the question. Surely you can see, and accept, that?

Why not, archaeologists use it in their research.
There's a fundamental difference between using something and relying on something!

You know how you can get a cut on the roof of your mouth? You know damned well that if you leave it alone, it'll heal in a couple of days, but something about it just makes you flick it with your tongue.

This thread is like that.
[offtopic]Have you not considered that the flicking is actually what heals it?![/offtopic]

The comment on "Shelby Foote Civil War" is also a repeat of a repeat of a repeat comment. Seriously DOC, is there some reason why you are apparently incapable of recognising that you are just constantly repeating the same long discredited claims?

In this particular case, as has been repeated countless times too, we know the Civil War happened because we've got many, many contemporary artefacts that we can exactly date to that time... including the bodies of those killed in the Civil War, and sometimes the bullets that killed them; the signatures and battle plans of the Generals; the ruins they left behind; the biographies of escaped slaves; the history leading up too, and after the War to set it into context; we've even got Abraham Lincoln's hat.

But as for the Bible... well, we've got the Bible. And er... that's about it. But only decades after the events they pertain to describe if you're talking gospels; and only centuries later if we're talking collected-Bible-that-ignores-most-of-those-gospels.

QFD.

DOC, you asked for a specific post which points out a supposed logical fallacy, which you said you would address.

Several have been suggested, but my personal preference from those is this one by Carlitos
  • Your use of "Sir Ramsay" and Thomas Jefferson as evidence is an appeal to authority.
  • Your use of the bible as evidence to prove the bible (Jesus appeared to Paul) is circular reasoning.
  • Your lack of acceptance for the exact same arguments to provide evidence of Hinduism is special pleading.
  • Your intimation that there was no fiction in the ancient Greek world (which included Judea) is ignorance, a lie, or both.

<snipped irrelevant stuff>
So, are you going to address this post, another of those suggested, or ignore all the responses to your request?

Once you are trapped in religious thinking, you attribute everything to God when it is really our own doing. Where, or what is God? It is simply a belief, but one which is bolstered by countless millennia of ignorance (and fear) about the real causes of events. Science has taught us the real causes only in the last few centuries – and our knowledge is expanding at a colossal pace towards further explaining all things we thought must be done by some God, spirits or other non testable speculations. The real evidence shows only that we are all products of evolution, not of divine creation.

That is so in ancient writings as well. A schizophrenic hears voices in his head, and thinks god must be talking to me. The next person he tells this to is simple and naive and believes every word. Later someone writes it down as scripture, as the word of the lord. Both the quran and babble came about by such means.

I'd love to do something but I have to admit I'm just a bit flabbergasted at the moment.

DOC is no longer even trying to pretend he's here to discuss anything or present any evidence, it's just one preachy lie after another. Or rather, the same one, endlessly repeated, over and over.

That anyone would expend so much time and effort just to make a complete mockery of his own beliefs is simply breathtaking.

Actually maybe this is bizarro-DOC, doing an operation false flag to torpedo the cause of DOC and bury any evidence that the NT writer told the truth.

I never said there were 19. There were 9 separate writers of NT books. And 40 separate writers of the entire bible. Interesting how it all seems to have a similar theme and come together nicely in spite of having 40 separate writers and being written over many centuries.
Funny that, eh?

Considering DOC made a very public point by both declaring a Block, and put a date on the removal of that Blocking, it would behove him as an a genuinely honest debater to declare the expiration of such, and recommence communication; otherwise there's no real point to the original act except as a suspiciously immature act of pique and attempted punishment.

So DOC... assuming I am indeed no longer on ignore, will you start by acknowledging that the Roman's not only didn't have an aversion to embracing the Gods and miracles of others, but that they spent hundreds of years devoting their finest engineering talents to the city of Aquae Sulis, or "The Waters Of Sulis", which we know today as the city of Bath?

Oh jeeze, it's like watching darts being thrown down a funnel!!

DOC! Mate, listen you're taking a Aquae Sulis on this one. Give it up mate, for your sakes. Take what humility you may have left and walk away.

Hrm...the good dean appears to be on stage two of the five stages of dealing with trolls. Soon, my good man you will have not only transcended frustration and attepmted bargining, but you will see red with anger, then accept the situation and finally just poke fun like the rest of us DOC survivors.

What? Just 'cause Kubler-Ross is bunk doesn't mean the five stages can't be coopted for my own nefarious purposes

aberhaten did it
