Is Reiki a religion?

Reiki doesn't require the vict... I mean, patient to be touched. Oh no. The reikist (as they don't like to be called) can wave their hands about in the patient's aura, a couple of inches away from the body. They can even do this over the phone. What is important is the flow of cash the other way; either electronicaly or by note transference.

Thx for the info. I'll be the first to admit I'm just barely touching the surface of any real knowledge on this subject. I find it interesting from a cultural perspective, but am in no danger of believing in it.

No, Reiki is not "a religion." It is a healing practice based on the transference of Ki (Chi, Energy) that has little or no empirical data to support it (though my own personal experiences with Chi Gong leads me to think there might be something to it, that hardly constitutes evidence for Reiki's effectiveness).

"Spiritual" doesn't necessarily have the same connotation in Buddhism and other Eastern traditions as it does in the West. Spirit is simply considered to be the body's Energy Field (Chi, Ki, Kundalini).

Religion is--in a Nutshell--a belief in, and worship of, a Deity or Deities. Reiki does not require this in any way, shape, or form; therefore it is not a Religion.
