Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

Well we have a difference of opinion, because the teachings of a perfect being would obviously be of extremely high merit, and that is what we have -- teaching of supremely high merit. So since they are so, this increases the possibility that they came from a God over let's say run of the mill teachings. Since it increases the "probability" that it came from a perfect being, it can be looked at as being evidence. Not proof but evidence..
You believe:
"That slave who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows. But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows."
is of high moral merit?

Yikes....

My point is if we don't even have known signature for Julius Caesar in existence, why do people make a big deal about unsigned Gospels.
The only person making a big deal about signatures is you.
Signatures are not the only way of determining authorship.

It's not because they lack a signature. It's because their authorship is unknown.

Have it occurred to you that the inventors of assorted religions were humans, and that could explain why they all suck?
Good point.
The meek shall inherit the earth? That is the worst sort of fatalistic nonsense as bad as anything like Hindu karma. I much prefer "and the meek shall stop whinging about how bad things are, grow a spine, and do something about it."
Another good point.

No. If there was a God, he would have a much better marketing department.

But Jesus' teachings were neither particularly great moral or particularly insightful.
Earlier incarnations of the Golden rules, for example, predate Jesus by at least 17 centuries...
And, of course, Jesus clearly condones slavery.
Furthermore, the concept of 'thought crime' is intrinsically flawed. By setting inaccessibly high standard and making all failure to meet these standards equivalent, Jesus, in essence, make crimes meaning less. If, for example, getting angry at somebody is the same thing as committing murder then we are all murderers, then, why not going all the way and committing murder? If looking at a woman lustfully is the same as committing adultery, why not actually committing the deed? It won't make you any worse a person, and, at least, you'll have some fun before burning...

The standards you offer, in my opinion, are actually evidence AGAINST the divinity of Jesus.

By many accounts, Satan has a very good marketing department.

"The Greatest Trick the Devil Ever Pulled Was Convincing the World He Didn't Exist" and so-forth.

If you believe, it's because he's real.
If you don't, it's because he's fooled you.

I agree with carlitos that this is a good point.

It's just that you may want to be careful with it around your, feudal lord, king, or bishop. They are not likely to be quite as understanding, and will quite likely have, nasty names for, and ways to deal with, women like you.

"Do what your betters tell you to do in this life and I promise you'll be treated better after you die." It don't get better than that if you are the one in charge.

Couple that with Jesus' "Render unto Ceasar..." line, and all you have is a moral code designed to not rock the boat, but reinforce established rulers.

:D

To be fair, "do something about it" doesn't have to involve armed resistence or anything. It could be as simple as learning how to brew decent beer, cooking up a bunch of bacon, and hosting a luau for the other serfs. Instant "Life isn't so miserable now!" and much better than waiting for some Messiah who is almost 2000 years late to the party.

Yes, and that is pretty much my theory off why christianity spread so fast.
It is more supportive of rulers than the old polytheism.

If you hold your head high due to an ability to cook bacon or brew good beer you would likely be told to bow it in gratitude to god for your abilities.

We can't have the womenfolk getting prideful. :D

That's it, no beer for you!

:p

Here is one woman who clearly does not know her place.

I read of one christian survey concluding that the most common cause of stress and unrest in the home were women disagreeing with and questioning their husbands.
You should take note of that. :D

Yrreg concluded that Hokulele is a transsexual and therefore does not count.

Maybe those Christian husbands should try not to be wrong all the time, then their wives wouldn't have to disagree with or question them. :D

It is amazing the mental contortions some people will make when they find out their assumptions are wrong. :boggled:
