Ook just the word 'Theophostic counseling' makes me cringe, and shudder.

If there is no replicated research base it is ********.

All counseling/therapy should have:
1. Assessment
2. Clear goals
3. Clear steps to those goals
4. Measurable outcomes
5. End in 12 weeks or reassessment and new goals

Note this is about 'talk therapy'.

And that 'Theophostic counseling' is *********** mumbo jumbo of a mainstream acceptable cult and a bunch of stupid god damn ********. Might as well tape a page from the bible on a bullet wound.

psycho therapist = quack.

Is Psychology a Science?
"At this point it must be clear to the intelligent reader that clinical psychology can make virtually any claim and offer any kind of therapy, because there is no practical likelihood of refutation – no clear criteria to invalidate a claim. This, in turn, is because human psychology is not a science, it is very largely a belief system similar to religion.

Like religion, human psychology has a dark secret at its core – it contains within it a model for correct behavior, although that model is never directly acknowledged. Buried within psychology is a nebulous concept that, if it were to be addressed at all, would be called “normal behavior.” But do try to avoid inquiring directly into this normal behavior among psychologists – nothing is so certain to get you diagnosed as having an obsessive disorder."

How exactly does someone measure the results of therapy? Last I heard, yardsticks, scales or a timers, etc. don't cut it.

Measure symptoms, such as panic attacks in the context of the trigger, level of anxiety. Self report is a measure of symptoms and so they can be measured.

Okay so the areas of psychology that deal with sensation are perception are religion, okay brantc. Sure whatever.

Not looked a those vids yet, but this Theophostic mumbo jumbo is just downright dangerous. i dont have the posts to link the website, but this is on it :-

Satan, or one of his demons, continually tries to exploit these lies by causing the individual adult to engage in sinful behaviors, causing feelings of guilt.
During a TPM counseling session, encourages the person to revisit the memory and then allows Jesus, or the Holy Spirit to enter the mind of a born-again Christian and cause the lies to be over-written and corrected -- much like a virus is removed from an computer disk.
It is possible that a demon has actually entered the client's mind, masquerading as Jesus or the Holy Spirit. The therapist must verify the identity of the indwelling spirit before proceeding.
Once the lies in the person's early memory have been corrected, the linkage to today's emotional problems and sinful practices is broken. Satan can not tempt a person to sin as easily as he could before the TPM sessions. The person is healed.

I was with you up until this point.
Why 12? Are you saying if I do a reassessment every 13 weeks the whole thing is bogus?

Or this just a standard practice?

(For the record, I'm asking not arguing)

12 because research shows that most effect occurs with 8-12 weeks. Reassessment can mean deciding new target symptoms or settings for the intervention. But it means that goals certainly need to be set and measures determined.

Especially in OCD and PTSD the goals will shift incrementally during the therapy.

I did not think you were arguing. :)

No, no, no, 'self report' is anecdotal evidence. If you don't let woos use it then you don't get to either.

Um, okay. whatever. Just throw out most of doctors taking notes when they talk to their patients then as well.

So you think that someone scoring their anxiety is bogus becuase of homeopaths?

maybe you need to check your logic as well. Self report of my anxiety is anecdotal, sure, next time you have a headache don't take aspirin.

Be sure to make overgeneralizations and sweeping judgements. Next time just say "I don't like it."

ETA: oooops no more self reports of angina to prevent heart attacks as well.

I dont think that MRI etc. can be classified as religion.
I'm pretty sure they are talking about how you feel or your day to day normal ups and downs that we are over medicated for......... Do you know anybody that takes a medication that "really helps them??" Does it really help them???(mentally)
And how do you determine that? People tell me how easy it is to get medicated....

Or have we lost part of our ability to maintain during emotional changes, and we depend on a pill to make us right, because of TV, internet and other 21st century stresses(brain washing)......

Were there more crazy people during the 1900's?

First measurement: how many payments left on therapist's car ?
Second measurement: when does the patient's insurance end ?
Third measurement: has therapist finished his/her next book ?

I don't think you're up to date on what psychiatry does. The myth that a psych can tell you you're fixated on your mom and your maladies are gone is pure Hollywood. A psychiatrist will note problematic behaviors or thoughts and classify them according to the DSM so that they can determine what tested therapies might work. The medications can sometimes act directly toward an imbalance in the brain but, most of the time, they act to allow the patient to try to assert control over their own inappropriate actions or activities.

And how do you determine that?
From the patients and others who work or live with the patient. Pretty simple. Science has yet to develop an instrument that tests for most mental disorders.

People tell me how easy it is to get medicated....
And, because you want to, you believe them. How insightful! Try it. Go to a psych with a made-up illness and see how close you get to medication. You'll proudly walk out of his office with a prescription for milk tablets.

Or have we lost part of our ability to maintain during emotional changes, and we depend on a pill to make us right, because of TV, internet and other 21st century stresses(brain washing)......
Oh, I see now. Because you consider yourself psychologically healthy means that those who are not are somehow inferior. All because of your might self-control? There are ways to skew your neurotransmitter balance toward psychosis. Yes, even someone as perfect as you can become a raving maniac. Seriously.

Were there more crazy people during the 1900's?
Why don't you get off your BFA and go find out. My money is that there were probably more but were underreported because the mighty, sane-than-thou lot (looking at you) locked them up in snake pits.

I'm not a psychiatrist but I've seen psychiatry do great things. Personally. On family and friends. People like you need an education but, hopefully, you'll be spared the ordeal. Live your own life and let others do the same.

Are these all rhetorical questions?

Psychology is a science - it's a soft science, and a young science, but a science nonetheless.

Um, as in your usual post you just use a bunch of irrelevant information and pretend that is an argument.

Who said depression is normal ups and downs....YOU did.

gee people never had psychosis or comitted suicide before television?
Were there more crazy people during the 1900's?

People never had cancer or heart disease.

Why was Bedlam full?

I am sorry Roma, what you went through is exactly why I take the stance that I do.
