Christopher Hitchens

DC- I'm no fan of the priesthood, but I'v known some committed workaholics in the job.

It's all a bit OT though, no?

Why does he get to have a text published on CNN? Why not let every Dick and Jane post an article? Actually, Dick and Jane would be much more interesting.

You are apparently unfamiliar with CNN's general level of journalism, particularly their obnoxious obsession with what people are saying on Twitter.

And he's an arrogant little prick for saying that.

Yeah, not going to be able to help you here. If you think the priest is an "arrogant little prick" for mentioning that Christians think atheists are sinners and then going on to outline why we should respect Hitchens anyway, I think we've gotten to the point where I just have to write your reaction off as "irrational anger" and be done with it.
I know you're disappointed because the Christians didn't have a huge outpouring of smug "God struck down Hitchens!" cries in response to this event (unlike, for example, Browne's supporters' reactions to Randi and Lancaster's ailments). You don't need to respond by manufacturing outrage.

Perhaps not, but I challenge you to tell George RR Martin that what he does for a living isn't "work."

hey he creates new fairy tales, and is not telling an old fairy tale over and over again.

(yes also priests are working and surely are Hitchens etc)

OK, maybe we should do the same when Barron gets ill, and once he does, let's ask an expert forensic pathologist to post an article on a popular News channel website that will describe in great detail how it's going to be for him when he dies: how his flesh is going to rot and insects will lay eggs inside him, and how his stomash will slowly swell and bloat from excess gas, and how worms are going to eat him up and leave no trace of him but bones. And let's make a special point to point out that there will be no more Barron for the rest of this Universe's duration.

That's how Atheists see death, so I expect Christians will take it for what it is and won't get outraged.

That's how you see death, huh? Most atheists see death as the end of their identity, since most atheists don't think their consciousness continues on in their rotting bodies. Sucks to be you, I guess.

The truth is that if an atheist actually wrote an article mentioning the irony that a prominent theist has a difficult disease, and also reminded fellow atheists of the importance of respecting him as a person even while disagreeing with his ideas and claiming quite prominently that the disease was just random and it didn't mean anything at all, I wouldn't have any problem with it.
Probably some irrationally angry Christians looking to invent an outrage would, but that just proves that such people exist on both sides.

I meant after death.

:eye-poppi thats how it is as far we know, sure one can create funny fairy tales of heaven and hell and such stuff to make you feel better, but i don't need that.

When I go to a Christian funeral, or when I visit a dying Christian, I STFU about my worldview, I think Christians should do the same for atheists when they are near death.

but when you really believe that nonsense of heaven and hell and you see a man near death, you just have to try to help him coming to the right way.

Wait, seriously?
A dead guy, yes, I agree. But you really think that a Christian who truly believes that a dying man is close to going to Hell if they don't embrace Christ shouldn't say anything? How is that even remotely reasonable?

Well he's closer to it then he was before.

Aha, so now Christians shouldn't say anything when something unfortunate happens to someone.
Again, you appear to just be angry at how obnoxious the guy wasn't but how obnoxoius you would have wanted him to be. He wasn't smug, and he wasn't nasty.
You've been both, right here.

Yes exactly, it's a perfect time to exercise their internal dialogue with god, internal being the operative word here.

How is that even remotely reasonable?
It's the respectful thing to do.
