Iran to stone adulterer who confessed after torture.

Ah, I forgot. It sentences people to death for crimes committed as minors, and then waits until they're over 18 before killing them.

Doesn't happen. Wrong again.

And from all I hear about other methods of execution, they're scarcely preferable to the electric chair.

Rolfe.

How exactly is lethal injection horrible?

I don't understand it at all since it makes no sense whatsoever. I suppose it is just an excuse for people to bash the USA.

What doesn't make sense to you?

In what way is it an excuse to bash the USA that doesn't apply to the original post being an excuse to bash Iran?

it kills you

First off, you are KILLING someone. If its not horrible, would you volunteer to have it done to you?

Secondly, it certainly doesn't sound very pleasant...

Please read for comprehension. I was obviously talking about compared to the electric chair.

And it is certainly possible that it is sometimes done incorrectly. But if done correctly, the person is knocked out and dies without feeling any pain whatsoever.

what i find horrible about it, is that it kills you.
i know there are things that kills you and you feel alot pain, but still both kill you.

So stoning to death isn't horrible compared to an alternative of being buried up to your neck in faeces and rotting bodies and simply being left to die and/or eaten by whatever lives in the desert.

Why are you so convinced your backward practice is alright when compared to everyone elses?

Lets see. The US only executes convicted murderers and does it in a manner designed to cause no pain. The savages in Iran executes supposed adulterers in manner designed to cause as much pain as possible. No differences at all.

Of course there are differences. Punching someone in the face is different to stapling their fingers to a table. Just because something is different doesn't mean that its just fine.

Execution is a backwards practice. Its good to hear that the US is doing away with electric chairs, seems like you are making progress. Not too far to go now to catch up.

Stoning people to death is a backwards practice too. Sad to hear that Iran seems to be making no progress in catching up. Hoepfully things will change for the better.

I really wouldn't regard the replacement of stoning to death for adultery with lethal injection for adultery to be much of a step forward for Iran. Would you?

Hopefully we can get to a stage where every country in the world can stop abusing the human rights of its citizens and all backwards practices will be confined to the history books.

Why is it a backwards practice? Just because you say so?

Anyway, lethal injection for adultery would be preferable to stoning. But it would still be outrageous that those savages would be executing a woman for adultery. In case you haven't figured it out, adultery is a far cry from murder.

lol!

This thread went from: "torture & death by stoning is bad" to: "torture & death by stoning is OK, because the USA is bad."

Un-be-leivable! :D

Let's cut out the moral relativism, guys & gals. Nothing you can say about the USA (right or wrong) changes the fact that people should not be tortured to exact a criminal confession, and they should not be tortured to death as a means of execution.

If someone disagrees with me, that is fine. Let's have a friendly & civil dialogue about it. But defend the actions of this Iranian court on their own merits. Don't use examples of other in justices to try to validate them.

if you want to discuss other injustices, start a thread about them. I see we already have one about capital punishment in general.

Regrads, Canis

Oh, you're just looking for an excuse to bash Islam.

Its a backwards practise because the general trend in a developing society (as far as I know) is away from capital punishment rather than towards it. I did a quick google for countries that have introduced capital punishment recently and didn't find any (i assume there must be some though), googling for those who have abolished it is a bit more fruitful.

Its nice that you have a mental league table of backwards practices that allows you to rate and rank one country as 'savages' and the other as just fine. Others would regard both as backwards.

Nobody said torture or stoning was OK. At any point.

Countries that torture people are bad.
Countries that execute people are bad.

What sticks a bit is people living in a country that tortures and executes saying that we should ban people immigrating and/or referring to other nations as savages because they torture and execute (regardless of whether its different or not).

No, no, no, my friend. Are you teasing me?

I meant exactly what I said. The topic at hand is this woman's trial and punishment. It should be discussed on it's own merits, instead of attempting to justifiy it with comparisons.

I have nothing agaist Islam. I do not believe that trial by torture & execution by torture is the inevitable result of Islam.

This sort of abuse happens all around the world in all sorts of cultures. It is always bad, no matter who does it.

Regards, Canis

While it has not happened since 2005, that does not mean it has not happened in the 21st century. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_juvenile_offenders_executed_in_the_United_States

The Supreme Court decision that set 18 as the minimum age for capital offenses (Roper v. Simmons) was a 5-4 decision. If one justice had viewed the issue differently, we would still be executing people for crimes committed when they were 16 or 17.

Who claimed it to be OK?

i especially made a new topic for general debate about Death penalty, so this thread stays on topic, torture and stoning for adultery. which is not only not OK it is horrible in several ways.

Anybody else notice how quickly the "Hate America First" people changed the subject, pushing the equivalence of "due Process" between confession by torture and Judicial knowledge vs. a string of lawyers, years of appeals, and judicial review by numerous judges.
Then there's excusing Islam for doing things that Christians quit doing a century or more ago...
