Obama declares war on Iran

And when Iran takes British and American prisoners, funds terrorist groups and arm the rebellion in Iraq, those are not acts of war?

And when the Mullahs and the Iranian president keep saying "death to America", that's not a declaration of war?

By cutting off Iran's refined oil imports, the U.S. will be causing massive, irreparable damage to the Iranian economy. It is an act of war.

maybe Iran should suspend its nuclear enrichment program.

maybe Iran should agree to have its uranium shipped to another country for enrichment and conversion into fuel rods.

Oh, I'm sure other, shallow nations in the West will buy it anyway.

Not that I don't understand where you're coming from, or fully agree with your sentiments, but what fear, exactly, is JJ mongering in this thread?

Last time I checked, being openly and officially at war with Iran would be more of a relief than anything else--after all, it's not like they already have nukes, right?

Some people seem incapable of understanding what an "Act Of War" is.
And I note the article that JJ links to seems to imply that the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan was justified.

UN sanctions aren't a declaration of war by any stretch of the imagination.

Iran has been calling for the "death of America" since the eighties, it thinks it already is at war with America.

Trivia question (which I'm sure you know): Who sunk the first US warship during WWII, Japan or Germany?

I certainly hope so.

And if this is even remotely true, why couldn't Bush have done this 4 years ago?

I understand this quite well.

My question was, why is characterizing it as war in any way "fear mongering"? Even if it were true (which it is not), what would there be to be afraid of?

NOTE: This is all directed more at JJ than at yourself.

Depends on when you consider WW2 to have started.
If you, as some Historians do, consider it to have started with "The China Incident" in 1937 then it's Japan sinking the US GUnboat Panay in China in 1937.
If you accept the September, 1939 starting date, then it's the Germans when a U Boat sank the USS Reuben James in the Fall of 1941.

I peg the start of WW-II to September 1931, with the Japanese invasion of Manchuria. I also include the Italians in Africa, and the German and Russian intervention in the Spanish civil war. The earlier conflicts blended into the formally declared world war.

We should be at war with Iran. They're funding the guys that kill American and international troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

no....Virus...lets attack Canada. I mean....why not? They are a lot closer to america which will save a heck of a lot of jet fuel. They talk funny too.

Wait. The Iranians are too incompetent to refine their own oil? lol

Anyway, so what if it destroys their economy? And if they are stupid enough to respond like Japan did it would probably turn out about as well for Iran as it did for Japan.
