I think it was Jeff that pointed out this nice short-term 4G service rental site at 4g4rent.com...

https://secure1.cwti.us/clear_site/rental_event/order.aspx

$60 for 4 days of use, 8 wifi ports ($7.50 per port if you're selling off the ports fairly, $10 if you make 7 other people pay for it four you...)? That sounds like a much better deal than paying the hotel for service that barely reaches the conference room.

I tried to reserve one for Thurs through Sun, but either my bank doesn't believe that I'm in Las Vegas, or they just don't like foreign credit cards. I'll try bugging my bank later, but if anyone else is interested in grabbing this and I'll buy a port off you?

I asked Jeff to test this, but he hasn't gotten around to it yet.. But last year I signed up for the room wifi in my room, and I was able to connect to the conference room wifi without having to pay extra.. He was using two different devices when he tested it.

That said, I already ordered the single user USB dongle thing from 4g4rent.. It's cheaper than the hotel wifi anyway and I don't have to worry about if it will really work or not. I did Thursday to Monday and they only charged me $45, not exactly sure why. Jeff has been saying it's working great.

Does anyone known if the stuff on the CD is really necessary for this to work? I don't have a CD drive on this computer!

Alternatively, would someone be able to stick the software on a USB drive for me?

when I signed up it also sent me to a link to get the drivers, it also asked me if I had a CD drive.

And it works! Pick it up at the hotel registration desk, if you're looking for the one you ordered!

I borrowed Jeff's connection from the conference center registration area, before I left. -- Saving me all of $2 on baggage fees :) .

Did this work out well for folks? Can you reserve it for only specific days, so you're not paying for times the device is in the package being shipped to you or back?

Also for one day it's the same as the cost of using the room Internet connection. --
yes cheaper if you share, or use for more than one day -- and more portable..
-- nice find..

With this service, it's a local Las Vegas company, and they deliver it right to your hotel on the day you want it, so no worries about delivery times there. When you're done, drop it in a USPS mailbox and that's it.
