In what has to be the ultimate in historical revisionism, Michael Steele has stated that Afghanistan was a "war of Obama's choosing."

"If he's such a student of history," Steele said, referring to President Obama, "has he not understood that, you know, that's the one thing you don't do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan? Everyone who has tried, over 1,000 years of history, has failed."

If this doesn't get him ousted, nothing will.

You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia"

I don't really care if it gets him ousted. I find him amusing in a revisionist sort of way.

Leave Michael alone. He's doing more good for America than all the blithering idiots on rightwhack radio ever will. I want him to hang in there and be the spirit of the GOP well into the general elections of 2024.

So you're saying that the solution is to replace the opium with iocane powder?

Michael Steele is one wacky dude. I agree that they would have fired hm already if they were ever going to work up the guts to do it. This is a really unfortunate metaphor, but also most apt: the RNC, for whatever reason they chose this chairman, have got a tarbaby on their hands.

I think they're going to wait out the expiration of his term (after this election), and then kiss him goodbye.

Ron White once said:

You can't fix stupid.

Mr Randi, I fear that your foundation is doomed to failure. :(

Here's the video. The sound is low so you may have to turn up your speakers. He looks and sounds like some lunatic who just wandered in and began spouting nonsense. Oh, wait... um...

This guy must be a manchurian candidate programmed to say stupid ****. I really cannot believe that someone in his position can constantly and consistently make ridiculous statements like this.

I wonder what his trigger word is.

But the U.S. effort is doomed and Obama did choose to pursue it (against the wishes of his supporters). What's the fuss?

From the link I read he did not say as the title suggests "Obama got us into Afghanistan". More like he chooses to keep us in Afghanistan.

I don't think it is revisionist. Obama has chose to stay. Some may argue he had no choice. Personally

The quote about being a student of history makes it sound to me as if he's suggesting Obama's the one who got us into it. At least it's intended to sound that way to sway supporter's minds. Sort of like when Rudy Giuliani said that "We had no domestic attacks under Bush." These people are living in such an alternate universe it's difficult to know whether they actually believe something or whether they're just lying through their teeth.

I note that much of the criticism from the right seems to be focused on Mr. Steele's contention that we can't win and should leave Afghanistan and very little is touching on the part where 'Obama got us into it'.

Um even the Karlnator feels MS pulled a gaffe
"Fox News contributor Karl Rove, a senior White House adviser to former President George W. Bush called Steele's comments "boneheaded," saying the Afghanistan war was "chosen for us by the people who ran Afghanistan -- the Taliban and their allies, Al Qaeda."

If there's anything more embarrassing than Steele, it's having to hear Karl Rove claim that the paltry power of Afghanistan forced the USA to fight its longest war in history, with still no resolution in sight.

What next? Will Mugabe in Zimbabwe choose for us to fight an 8 year war there?

Because he did not say Obama got us into it.
