Hitchens scheduled to break Borders pledge

Hitchens' Borders appearance CANCELED

UPDATE
Tomorrow's Borders event has been canceled. I have yet to find a report of the reason, but he also canceled his scheduled Sunday appearance at another bookstore in the area. A notice on their website (keplers.com) says, “Due to a personal matter, Mr. Hitchens is unable to be in the Bay Area at this time.”

One can only speculate, but my hunch is that he was unaware he had been scheduled for a Borders, and that the “personal matter” (however it is being represented) is his determination to keep his pledge upon being made aware of the situation. His disgust with Borders was too palpable, and his vow to snub them too resolute, for him not to follow through.

I would recognize your writing style anywhere Hitchens!

Hitchens to start chemo for esophageal cancer

Christopher Hitchens announced today through his publishing house the reason he cut short his book tour:

"I have been advised by my physician that I must undergo a course of chemotherapy on my esophagus. This advice seems persuasive to me. I regret having had to cancel so many engagements at such short notice."

Two possible reactions:
1. That’s a pretty elaborate ruse to get out of a Borders appearance.
2. God is finally getting him.
