Back into the gutter at TAM8

Just a quick bump for anyone who hasn't see this yet.

For those who want to bowl, a question: Should I shorten the time from 9-11 PM to 9:30-11PM?

Reason the first is that there is a show on 8-9:30 and this would give folks going there the chance to join us and reason the second, I wonder if 2 hours of bowling (especially people who don't bowl much) might be a bit to much.

Right now I'll hold at 9-11, but would appreciate feedback.

9:30 would also give Hokulele more time to lose at poker. me more time to win at poker.

For those voting for starting time, please note that this doesn't have to be terribly strict, and I am more than willing to stay at the registration table as long as people want to register. Those with children may want to start earlier, and those attending shows may want to start later. I would recommend that the "official" starting time be 9:00, but anyone can show up to bowl later, if they want.

That sounds good. There will hopefully be a group of us arriving after the show, we can probably bowl together.

Considering I could still feel the bowling experience two days after the actual event took place last year, I think about an hour of bowling is probably sufficient to get in about two games in a 2v2 system.
Folks with kids may want to leave earlier, folks who attended Thompsoni may want to arrive later. If there's not too much overlap, you won't even have lanes remaining empty for too long.

My son, who will be 5 years old then, and I will be bowling. We'll be happy to welcome anyone who likes skeptikids on our team.

brainlesssteel and I are interested in signing on for the bowling, but we missed this last year so we are clueless as to how this works. Does someone assign us all to teams, or what?

Nope. If you have people you want to bowl with, pick them. Otherwise, just show up, pay your money, and Hokulele will tell you where to go.

But be careful; after losing to me in poker the second year in a row, she may be in a foul mood when she "tells you where to go"!

:D

Well, I decided last year's event went well enough, so I've chartered 16 lanes and we'll try TAM Bowling II.

It'll be the same time (Thursday, 9-11PM) at the South Point bowling lanes, and the cost will remain the same, $10.00 for 2 hours bowling and a voluntary (which means I won't twist your arm...much) $10.00 donation to the JREF.

No more than 4 per lane, so 64 people are needed for yours truly to break even, and I will be recruiting from non-Forumites to fill out the roster, so let me know by PM or on this thread if you are interested.

I also note that Drinking Skeptically is also starting at 9PM. For those conflicted I would note (1) Drinking and bowling are often paired together (2) You don't have to stay for the entire 2 hours and (3) I rather think the drinking will last past 11PM.

Besides, we're raising money for the JREF and having some fun (and drinking).

But please, Marquis, in the sacred names of Earl Anthony and Dick Weber, please don't try it--the memory of your bowling last year is not pleasant for me to contemplate.....:eye-poppi;):)

Excellent! A venue to wear my "Nobody ****s with The Jesus" T-shirt!! Or should I just wear sunglasses and a robe?

This is bowling! There are rules!

But I think drinking white russians should be mandatory.

9:30p - 11p is fine with me. When you're out of shape like moi, 2 hours of bowling can be exhausting (really!). And, I'm happy to be on any team who will take me. :D

Sign me up! I've suddenly realized: I'm supernaturally bad at bowling. This could win me a million bucks!

Is there a list of who's in? I'll play! (I think I was not completely sure before, but it seems Penn & Teller won't be around.) I've seen The Big Lebowski several times, so I think I know what it's all about...
