What we DO need at TAM8

Better alternative to the pool is the spa. It's just about the only comfortable place with no smoke. Last year, I stayed there all afternoon until the closing time (7:30 pm) reading, taking nap waiting for the time for the air port shuttle on Sunday. Free fruits and drinks are available and I imagine you could order alcoholic drinks, too. Steam bath and a dozen other soaking baths -- a heaven on earth for any Japanese woman. It's well-worth $25. The most of the time, I was alone.

Don't drink at the pool excessively during the hottest part of the afternoon. I saw a woman attended by a team on EMT.

Craft beer at the reception cash bar.

Polygamy Porter!

Ooh, is there a wish list? I'd like some Double Nut Brown, then. And a Captain Bastard's Stout. (Polygamy Porter is fine, too, but only if served with the traditional "You know that you cannot have just one, right?")

I occurred to me today that it would be a good idea to maybe make a trip to a grocery store (if Vegas even has such a thing) to get some snacks and food for the hotel room so that poor bastards like me can save a bit of money on meals. Having some cereal and cheese and crackers handy would make eating a lot cheaper compared to daily trips to the hotel buffet (and would probably be healthier, too). Not having access to a car makes this difficult, though. Maybe we could organize some sort of group food grab outing with some person who has access to a vehicle who can be bribed to provide transport? Google maps says there's a Trader Joe's five miles away, so that's an idea.

That,or we can join forces on cab fare...I haven't heard how many people are bringing or renting cars...

Agreed on food options being limited at the casino/hotel. Also the beverage options...we need more Dr Pepper, people!!

I second the Trader Joe's run. I don't have one here and haven't been to one in YEARS.

Well, I dunno what cabs cost but it's only about five miles to a TJ's so it won't be that bad split between a few people. Getting a cab at the hotel will be easy but someone will probably have to call one for the return trip. Doubt we want to pay the same guy to wait around while we shop.

Wowbagger to the Rescue!

I will be renting a car, this year, in fact.

I'm not especially inclined to want to visit a supermarket while in Vegas, especially since I live near a couple of Trader Joe's. And, I usually don't accept bribes, either. But, I might make an exception, in this case.

I'm open to negotiations.

What's with these weird Vegas stereotypes about there not being any grocery stores. There are plenty grocery stores all over the place and most are open 24 hours with plenty of parking.

Anyway, I recommend shopping district called Town Square off of LV Blvd and Warm Springs. It's five minutes from the airport, five minutes from the strip, five minutes from the South Point. There's a Whole Foods along with plenty of restuarants.

The Del Mar actually has a mobile bar. You can find it in the lecture hall quite often. It goes by the name of "Rusty Pouch."
I would second this recommendation. Service is friendly and discreet. Unfortunately, I heard that he is opening a satellite location in France this year and will not be available for TAM. :(

How about a card and board game night? I can bring my assorted Munchkin decks, again.

Rather than go for a separate gaming night, I intend on bringing various games to the bar each evening, people can come get a game and play whatever they want for however long they want. That bar is nice and large with lots of tables, so it is a good fit for some fun games.

I will be bringing a few fun games and anyone else who wants to bring a favorite or two is welcome to do so. I am choosing mostly games without complex rules and that don't take a long time to play, so people can play a game and continue to drink and talk.

Drunk Apples to Apples is always interesting...
