'...One of the elements that contributed to the phased approach "was the realisation that if Iran were actually to launch a missile attack on Europe, it wouldn't be just one or two missiles or a handful," Gates told the hearing.
Iran says its nuclear programme is aimed solely at peaceful energy use
"It would more likely be a salvo kind of attack, where you would be dealing potentially with scores or even hundreds of missiles." ...'

Here we go again. Yawn.
The same old demonisation tactics from the same old USA.
Doesn't Gates realise that no-one believes the US any more - especially when they remember his previous employers lies about Iraq.
How many times is the USA going to try and pull the same old tired stunt of demonising states it doesn't like as a pretext to invasion. Has he forgotten that in the 1950s the USA and the UK destroyed a democratically elected government in Iran and installed a murderous dictator and that criminal behaviour led directly to the current religious regime in Tehran and the nutter Ahmadinejad.
It seems that the USA will never learn from its own criminal behaviour. What is even more shocking is that it seems to expect the world to have forgotten all the times it destroyed democratic governments.
Don't forget the previous disasters that resulted from the USA government trying to demonise those they don't like. Look at the 'blowback' in Afghanistan. They happen to be trying to demonise the UK as well at the moment. Demonising other countries and scaring its own people is what the Usan government does.
PS
Here's a small helpful hint about telling the truth for the US government
The actual name of the Gulf operating company involved in the Gulf environmental disaster is BP - not British Petroleum - as the US government knows. It is therefore a deliberate lie. The use of the word British by Obama the hypocrite, is designed deliberately to be anti-British and to damage the interests of the people of the UK.
When the US government behaves in such a way it just makes them look stupid around the world. Like in the good ol' days of the Comic-in-Chief.
