From the BBC and other sources.
One Gary Brooks Faulkner, a American construction worker from California, has been arrested by police in northern Pakistan while attempting to cross the border into Afghanistan. He was equipped with a sword, knife, pistol and night vision gear along with 'Christian literature'.
He (allegedly) told investigators after his arrest late on Sunday that he was on a solo mission to kill Osama Bin Laden (by decapitation). He initially resisted arrest, threatening to fire on police; he's also alleged to have said "God is with me, and I am confident I will be successful in killing him." It's also stated that Faulkner suffers from kidney problems and high blood pressure.

So possible new xian tourist craze or "another wacky story from the frontier"?:D

I think some people just get a euphoric feeling that they can do something. They believe it with every fiber of their being. Perhaps they attribute it to god or aliens but it's probably just a chemical imbalance somewhere. I'll bet as long as he was going forward it felt great but he's probably crashing right now and is wondering what he was thinking.

So I have to wonder how many of these types of corpses litter the mountain valleys along the Paki/Afghan border?

I see something like this and I see an opportunity. We've got an overabundance of Christian fundamentalists in the US, let's put them to good use in a new Crusade to the Hindu Kush to find OBL. It's win/win - either we get rid of a dangerous bloc of crazy people in the US, or we see bin Laden captured or killed (both if we're really lucky).

Oh, and like previous Crusaders, arms, lodging and transportation are on their own dime. They've ignored all of Jesus' pro-poverty/anti-wealth messages, so they can afford it.

Bad idea. As any imperial power will tell you when you are trying to pacify an area for the long hall the last thing you want is a bunch of psycos stiring things up.

I don't think so:

The Rocky Mountain Rambo who was caught in Pakistan hunting for Osama Bin Laden has one thing in common with his prey - bad kidneys.

Gary Brooks Faulkner "is dying," his sister, Deanna Faulkner said Tuesday.

"He only has 9% kidney function, and the only thing that can cure him is a transplant," she told the Daily News. "He needs dialysis three times a week. I'm guessing that he wanted to do one last thing for his country before he died."

How the hell did he think he was gonna even find OBL?

"God is with me, and I am confident I will be successful in killing him."

He would just know, you see. Maybe a shining star will guide him.

Of course we're sane enough to realise he'd die alone and confused in the arid mountainous highlands of Afghanistan. Or perhaps beheaded himself by a group of jihadists. Getting captured by the police is probably the best thing that could've happened to this guy.

Maybe he was going to cut out OBL's kidneys for his own use.

ETA: Wait. OBL has bad kidney's too? Hmm. Maybe he could cut them out, sell them on the black market (without disclosing their condition), then use the money to buy some good kidneys.

He did bring a sword!!

Whatev - go ahead, make fun of him. The guy is a little loopy; but still: faced with death, this guy's bucket list consists of "killing Bin Laden with a ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ sword". I wouldn't mind toasting to his memory.

when you want something to be done properly, you have to do it yourself.
a man of deeds, not of words :)

Maybe he got a "wheres Wally" book for Xmas and thought "hey, this is actually quite easy, pass my sword and book me passage to the northwest frontier!!!!"

We could even turn it into a reality TV show!

Might this not turn into the next big tourist thing? Bin Laden hunting in northern Pakistan! Bring your own sword!

Occasionally, you have to admire people for doing incredibly stupid, dangerous things.

If only the troof movement had that much commitment - the gubmint would be trembling in their deep underground military bases. :D
