Grnlee0687 on BFF said:He told the story from start to finish, it was amazing to hear it from the horses mouth, no pun.
He said they were on their horses and came around this bend and there she was, 25feet away. Patterson saw it bent over in the creek and by the time Gimlin saw it it had stood up, turned around and started walking away. Patterson jumped off the horse and ran after her to shoot the footage. Gimlin said the horses didn't act worried, just normal. Patterson told Gimlin to run over behind her with his gun incase she charges. Frame 352 came from Gimlin jumping off his horse and she turned to see what it was. As she left Gimlin tracked her a few hundred feet until Patterson yelled to come back because he was worried there might be more and he only had his camera, no gun. Once he came back they got on the horses and tracked her 300 yards into the woods. They came back to the site, Patterson wanted to stay another 2weeks but Gimlin said he had to get back home. He told some stories and answered some questions.
Gimlin opens his mouth to the local newspaper ...
"Roger Patterson and I were friends. We had, in our younger years, rodeoed together," he said.
"Coming around the bend there was a downfall tree ... that caused the creek to reroute itself and go around there. When we came around the bend in the creek this creature stood across the creek. It was standing when I saw it. It may have been stooped down when Roger saw it. It immediately turned and started walking away, taking natural looking steps."
Patterson quickly dismounted his horse, grabbed his camera and ran after the creature. At one point he fell to his elbows, regained his balance and shot the minute's worth of film.
At one point Patterson yelled for Gimlin to "cover him." Gimlin dismounted and brandished his Remington .30-06 rifle.
"That's where you see that famous turn," he said, "when I stepped down off that horse."
Again Gimlin says that Roger fell to his elbows.
