"The U.S. team bus containing about 10 players going to an open-air market at the entrance to the team hotel got stuck in a traffic jam Friday caused by an elephant, spokesman Michael Kammarman said.

The congestion occurred outside the Bakubung Bush Lodge in Rustenberg. Players timed the trip to get back to the hotel in time for the start of the World Cup opener between South Africa and Mexico.

It was an elephant. I rest my case.

as they don't even know how that sport is called properly.....

It's not our fault the rest of the world decided to change it's name to "football."

at least our football gets played by feet :D
Ha ha! Other than the goalie! Ha ha! And throw-ins! Ha ha!

At least our legal system doesn't still involve wearing powdered wigs. Barrister, or embarrassed-er?

Well ... sorta.

The rules of football were codified in England by the Football Association in 1863, and the name association football was coined to distinguish the game from the other forms of football played at the time, specifically rugby football. The term soccer originated in England, first appearing in the 1880s as an Oxford "-er" abbreviation of the word "association",[50] often credited to former England captain Charles Wreford-Brown.[51]

It'd be pretty hard to play American Football without feet.

I remember a news story about a high school student/athlete without legs, who was a very good wrestler and nose tackle. Tough to get leverage on him, "Get Low!" and "Low Man Wins!" are common phrases from line coaches.

(now that I'm thinking about it more, I remember an opposing coach getting the player removed from a game on the technicality that he wasn't wearing all of the required equipment, which included shoes. The player tied a teammates cleats to his belt and went back in).

American Football needs more people without feet.

Preferably lesbian single mothers without feet.

Also, you should get a certificate for taking part.

Losing possession could be changed to 'I know you're having fun, but the other team gets their turn now. It's only fair."

Oh, and Brett Favre should be allowed an electric wheelchair if he gets tired.

It is not the fault of the world that one single country decided to name a sport in which MOSTLY hand are used *foot*ball.

Please carry on.

That would be the Brits.

The same country that decided to name a sport "soccer".

Funny how these things change. The U.S. becomes the bastion of British tradition in the face of callow populism.

:p
