Elton John plays at Rush Limbaugh's wedding!

Rush is quite right to think gays shouldn't be allowed to marry. It's a sacred, holy, binding institution created by God. That's why Rush is on his fourth now. He can't get enough of the sacred, binding commitments to one single woman "til death do us part", or at least until the next woman comes along.

Gotta love the 'totally stunned' nature of the (curiously) few responses. Elton so totally blew out the JREF Status Quo's political correctness meters, the typed word just isn't enough to convey all the righteous indignation? Actually, it should have been a crime to allow the thread at all given its potential threat of promoting spontaneous human combustion. I mean, heads are spinning fer sure fer sure.

Anyway, and on that same notion, I'd bet real dollars to fake donuts that had the story been something more like 'Elton John Refuses to Play Rush Limbaugh Wedding For Any Price', there would be 10x times the amount of responses by now (certainly more than a measly 17) with most being part of a huge steaming pile of rejoicing pink dog pile. Wait...did I mention huge steaming pi...oh okay, good.

That's it, Elton John is now OFF the JREF's Christmas card list.

This is a post that claims that the lack of posts in this thread proves that this story has driven people crazy.

Talk about shoehorning reality into a silly narrative...

Wow. Talk about open minded.

You all sound like you're freakin' authorities on Rush Limbaugh.

I'm shocked a forum that claims to have intellectual superiority like this one allow people simply sit here and badmouth people with nothing more than opinion.

Hey, I'm game. What do you know about Limbaugh that the rest of don't that would shed some light on this story?

For a million dollars I would sing at a wedding of the Grand Wizard of the KKK. And I am black.

There was a case a few years ago of a Black comedienne who, thought a mix-up, got a gig at a Klan group's annual meeting. The group was registered under some other phoney-baloney name ("Union for State Rights of Sovereign Citizens" or the equivalent) so she didn't know they're the Klan, and they didn't know she was Black.

She says she got a standing ovation... and I believe it, since you'd be surprised how different people are in actuality than what you'd expect from their "formal" beliefs.

Considering Elton also played with Eminem who has belittled gays in his music it is clear elton is an opportunist seeking $.

I know one can make the argument that by mixing with those who hate you may change their position but there is a difference between mixing with them and working for them. elton should have passed on the cash in this case.

ETA: Scannerhead, I would be happy to provide plenty of evidence of Rush Limbaugh's douchery but I doubt you are really interested. I'll just mention his choice to air his calling a 13 year old girl a "dog" on national TV. Or his mocking of someone with parkinson's disease.

It was a mistake on Rush's part. He misunderstood when someone told him the Queen of England was coming.

And if you think that was bad, you should see what they are saying on Free Republic. It's like a mirror image of here.

Has it occurred to anyone that maybe Elton John considers himself a high profile entertainer first and foremost rather than whatever way any of us choose to label him? If he was told to use 10 words to describe himself, would any of them have to do with sexual orientation?

I don't know much about him aside from his music and the fact that he really likes flowers. Is he actively involved in gay rights causes? I know he does a lot of work for AIDS research and care, but that isn't necessarily a gay rights issue.

Or maybe some of you are right and every gay man should all have the same set of priorities.

I am happy for all of them.

Looks like they all enjoyed a good time.

Nope. Everybody's an individual first, and free to think and act as they like.

That said, I'm a gay man, and I'd be delighted to sing at Rush Limbaugh's funeral.

For a million dollars, I'd sing at Rush Limbaugh's wedding too.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume both of youse guys have several million dollars less than Elton John.

It's not like the dude needs the money. This site claims EJ earns US $32,000,000 a year.

Would either of you sing at at a Grand Wizard / Limbaugh wedding for, say, $1,500 - $2,500?

That would be a decent payday for a middle class wage earner, and it puts it in a bit of perspective for those of us who are not multi-millionaires.

$2500 for what, 3 hours work? Do you think actual wedding bands and DJs give a damn about the receptions they perform at as long as the check clears?

Maybe Rush didn't want his fiance to feel like she was the only one paid millions of dollars to be there.

"Elton John may have seemed like the last person expected to perform at Rush Limbaugh's wedding over the weekend.

Why?

Limbaugh, 59, has made a number of colorful remarks about gays that have sparked outrage -- and kept his conservative credentials intact.

Actually, he has not.

We would all like to think so. It is more fun to label someone something than get the facts.

I have challenged people to find one anti-gay direct quote. As I recall, no one could.

Why would someone who is against gay people invite one to sing at his weding? That does not make sense.

Limbaugh acknowledges that neocons seem to side against gay rights. But that is as far as I have ever heard him go. Dahvi Shira of PEOPLE.com seems to me to be just another Liberal with poor reading comprehension who lives in his own dream world.

Here's a good one folks, what should TragicMonkey sing at Rush's funeral?

How about 'Another one bites the dust' by Queen?

'Great King Rat' would be a more apt Queen song to perform. :D

Elton John agrees gays should have a separate legal status from married heteros?

How sad.

He believes in Civil Partnerships, he has one himself with his partner, they are marriages in all but name.

I have challenged people to find one anti-gay direct quote. As I recall, no one could.

I googled this list which seems pretty weak beer.

1. Aired a song about Senator Barney Frank called “Banking Queen“.
2. Democrats will “bend over, grab the ankles, and say, ‘Have your way with me’” to African American and gay voters.
3. On the Mark Foley scandal: “In their hearts and minds and their crotches, they don’t have any problem with what Foley did. They’ve defended it over the — over the years.“
4. Openly gay students are “trumpeting” their sexuality, “inviting dissent”.
5. “When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult; it’s an invitation”
