Merged Israel Attacks Palestinian Aid Flotilla, According To Reports

This is gold. When you read the accounts of what happened in the aftermath of the boarding, Paul McGeough's in particular, you see how white, western activists got treated very differently that Turkish/Arab activists. Well, this inherent racism of the IDF was on show again today with the different treatment given to the white activists on board the Rachel Corrie

Obviously Turks and Arabs are second class people in the mind of Israel, which just goes to highlight the inherent racism of the Jewish state, and accentuates the excess suffering that Arab Palestinians undoubtedly suffer under their yoke.

[racism/] ..maybe the Irish inherently know better than to attack armed soldiers .. [/racism] - satisfied?

The "activists" on the flotilla have one goal: dead Jews.

Paranoid rubbish.

“What the Israeli commandos got is what any armed hijacker should expect who tries to steal a car from a driver who keeps a tire iron under the front seat.”

Lift the Siege of Gaza

I love the woman at 1:25.

It's quite the paradox that the activists claim Israel is the violent bully and Palestine is the victim -- yet whenever the two demonstrate, it's the Palestinians who throw rocks, set things on fire and get themselves arrested, while the Israelis and their supporters show their sympathies peacefully, sometimes under attack from the Palestine crowd.

Not true.

Were the protestors also wearing bullet-proof long johns? If not, why not shoot them in the legs?

That is a good question. It may have something to do with lowering your weapon and making yourself more susceptible to being disarmed or even attacked. That's just speculation, though.

http://www.jordantimes.com/?news=27171

quoted from Jordan Times:

In all, the cameraman counted 40 wounded passengers, many with bullet wounds to the legs, apparently to disable them.

Thanks for the link.

The nine victims:

Cengiz Alquyz, 42

Four gunshot wounds: back of head, right side of face, back, left leg

Ibrahim Bilgen, 60

Four gunshot wounds: right chest, back, right hip, right temple

Cegdet Kiliclar, 38

One gunshot wound: middle of forehead

Furkan Dogan, 19

Five gunshot wounds: nose, back, back of head, left leg, left ankle

Sahri Yaldiz

Four gunshot wounds: left chest, left leg, right leg twice

Aliheyder Bengi, 39

Six gunshot wounds: left chest, belly, right arm, right leg, left hand twice

Cetin Topcuoglu, 54

Three gunshot wounds: back of head, left side, right belly

Cengiz Songur, 47

One gunshot wound: front of neck

Necdet Yildirim, 32

Two gunshot wounds: right shoulder, left back

Patel [chairman of the Friends of al-Aqsa] claimed that as soon as the Israeli Defence Force helicopter appeared above the Mavi Marmara, "it started using immediately live ammunition" without any warning being issued.

After the first victim fell the white flag was raised, he said, but Israeli forces continued firing. "I think the Israeli soldiers were shooting to kill because most of the people who died were shot in the top part of their bodies," he said. He believed that later victims were injured in their legs after a "tactical move" by the commandos to wound rather then kill.

Gaza flotilla attack: Autopsies reveal intensity of Israeli military force

In other news, zero people were killed and none of them wounded when the IDF boarded Rachel Corrie and the crew offered no resistance...

Oh. You heard:rolleyes:.

Sigh... okay, you know what? If you're that desperate to spin even good news into hatred against Israel, I think I'm done with you. This thread has gone on almost 2000 posts, and most of it has been the same people (you know who you are) spamming the same strawmen and nonsensical fallacies and misunderstandings over and over. The discussion should've ended on page two or so.

I believe this is their cue to fall back to the position where this intercept only went peacefully because the activists chose not to exercise their right to mob the boarders but if they had done so the IDF still would be in the wrong to have defended itself. The activists showed restraint in not getting themselves shot again, and Israel showed how it commits terrible acts of provocation...

What is usually a 'last resort' generally isn't accepted as 'high on the list' of options. In before 'The list only had one option'.

It is high on their list of options because they are storm troopers.

Depends on who the commandos are facing. If it is a group of activists intent on becoming martyrs and lynching the Commandos, surely not.

Do you have any supporting evidence for these claims?

Activists practicing Civil Disobedience may given them the cold shoulder, but certainly not a crowbar to the head.

The activists were refusing entry to heavily armed potential murderers in international waters. They had a right to defend themselves, something their attackers appear to have no trouble claiming for themselves, despite being the aggressors with all the technology of modern warfare.

Physical violence is not practiced by those who practice civil disobedience. No true Scotsman and all, but that is the definition of non-violent protest
.

Those who did practice non-violent protest were also met with disproportionate violence. The brutality continued after their kidnap. They were also robbed of their possessions.

Some of the activists decided to physically defend their boat from attack by armed, masked, armored commandos in international waters under cover of darkness. Big deal! This was obvious to the Israelis before the boarding. The Israelis had plenty of time to rethink their strategy. The flotilla repeatedly told them that they were unarmed ("hot weapons"). The IDF, the original aggressors, chose to stick with their decicion to use extreme violence by sending in storm troopers, a decision made days before any contact with the flotilla

Is there generally an accepted, practiced, logical, and easy way to disable an entire flotilla of ships that does not include destroying them? I can't think of one.

Think a bit harder! There are some suggestions up-thread.

The flotilla consisted mostly of small, easily blockaded ships.

They -were- properly prepared for defusing it, physically anyway. Paint ball guns, tear gas, stun grenades are all used to crowd dispersal/control, and are all non-violent (although incredibly agitating, it seems!). When the activists wear gear that defeats most of the Commandos non-violent methods of control, that in itself escalates the violence.

In most cases paint ball guns, tear gas, stun grenades (and "plastic" bullets) may be mostly non-lethal but they are certainly not "non-violent"!

There are many witnesses now claiming that the IDF opened fire before their storm troopers hit the deck.

The same can be said for the flotilla - they knew they could not break the blockade, and their presence outside of the no-traffic zones would only incite violence. They had no business trying to defy a blockade, morally right or not.

In your opinion. Other ships have broken the blockade.

Most of the world believes they had every right and that if governments won't act to effectively challenge Israel's crimes against humanity then it is up to ordinary citizens to do so.

You appear to be saying that the only way that Israel could respond was with violence. Is that right?

The clubs come up and down regardless of the wall. If there is someone shielding the commandos, I feel sorry for them!

You better go on a shooting spree then.

I also feel sorry for the soldiers and can understand why it made them cry.

Again, the presence of gas-masks and kevlar vests escalates the violence to the point where non-lethal methods are ineffective. Then you have soldiers who are in a helpless situation, being beaten on, and they have guns and the OK to use them in a last option situation. What do you expect?

Commandos should never have been sent onto the ship in the first place. The responsibility for the deaths and mutilation lies with those who sent trained killers onto an unarmed civilian vessel in international waters.

Again, gas masks defeat tear gas. Stun grenades are noisy and bright, not physically harmful. I don't think they expected a 'safe' landing, merely a landing into a controlled area, which it wasn't.

No, it was you who ludicrously claimed that the grenades were used to clear the area for a safe landing, perhaps forgetting that humans aren't cattle.

Tear gas and stun grenade are designed to terrorize and cause panic.

Who were these people, where were they shot, what was going on during, who saw them get shot, etc.

See post above for their names. The other information you requested is either unknown or I can't be bothered to dig it up for you, who, if I am not mistaken, claims they were all shot in self-defense.

It is enough to say that lethal force was justified based on the clips we saw.

Thanks for your opinion.

A minute is a long time in that situation, and we have no idea how long that footage carries on before they start shooting.

Why's that then?

After that, it is up to the discretion of the soldier to use lethal force or not (example: moving room from room would warrant discretion when confronting a hiding activist who is not armed) and this is where I would agree with you. However, BAC posted a story from (I believe) a Jordan newspaper in which there were a high number of activists with gunshot wounds to the legs, which is a non-lethal way to disable an opponent, and it also coincides to what Bit posted about the young man with a gunshot wound to his leg (perhaps completely unrelated). If these commandos were 'shooting first and asking questions later' why would there be such a high number of leg wounds?

See my post above. It may that their commanders abandoned their, initial shoot-to-kill policy in favor of a later, more sensitive , shoot-civilians-in-the-legs, crowd-control tactic.

Has civil disobedience always implied a violent reaction? Or is this new?

You're right that civil disobedience is usually non-violent. I don't regard fending off pirates to be a justification for murdering the defenders, however. Speaking personally, I regard acts such as setting fire to the South African Embassy in London to be civil disobedience, too, as well as meeting police violence with violence. That is using civil disobedience in a more general sense, though i.e. refusal to obey a law because one believes the law is immoral.

"Why must there be a conspiracy about Israel? Why are these activists unable to control their violence?"

Having more problems answering my questions?

Did you share this legal opinion with us already? I may have missed it. I'll look through again, but if you could link it for me, I would appreciate it!

The UN Security Council gathered for an emergency session on Monday. Practically all its members condemned Israel’s actions with the peace flotilla, naming them “banditry and piracy, murder conducted by a state that has no excuses, no justification whatsoever.” In a formal statement the council also demanded the immediate release of ships and civilians held by Israel.

Russia’s spokesperson in the Council has particularly stressed that “the use of weapons against civilians and detaining vessels in the open sea without any legal grounds is a flagrant violation of universally recognized international regulations.”

You yourself are arguing that it is fine to use lethal force as self-defense against potential murderers.

Wrong blockade runner. We're discussing this:

You guys are still thinking about this:

Pay attention, please.

And that makes it less of a breach of international law how?

Which of the articles of the International Declaration of Human Rights doe this action violate?

Hint.

What was that one about arbitrary arrest and detention?
The Rachel Corrie was boarded with no problems. You are obviously disappoited.

Pip pip

Yup, boarded by sea, no airborne helicopter sound/gas bomb attacks, and just as the whitey's were treated different in detention, ie. not bashed and tortured, so were the whitey's who chose to run the blockade. Such is the nature of the racist Israeli state.
Hilarious. Israel enacts a non-violent boarding. The bastards.

Hilarious. Israel enacts a non-violent boarding. The bastards.

... When the boat is populated by Westerners. When its populated by dirty Arabs and Turks, it's all in - rubber bullets, gas canisters, sound grenades... Then the slightest resistance, *********** well smoke those fools! HOO-WAH! Read McGeough's account, Westerners were treated gracefully, anyone who even LOOKED Arabic were treated like animals.

Amazing logic of the one-state solution. To let in a bunch of people associated with those who went to war with Israel in order to destroy it and to let them in and pretend as if nothing happened.

translation? all Arabs are the same.

An unnamed Israeli commando, who purportedly led the raid on the Mavi Marmara, today told Israeli news website Ynet News that he shot at a protester who approached him with a knife. "I was in front of a number of people with knives and clubs," he said. "I cocked my weapon when I saw that one was coming towards me with a knife drawn and I fired once. Then another 20 people came at me from all directions and threw me down to the deck below …

"We knew they were peace activists. Though they wanted to break the Gaza blockade, we thought we'd encounter passive resistance, perhaps verbal resistance – we didn't expect this. Everyone wanted to kill us. We encountered terrorists who wanted to kill us and we did everything we could to prevent unnecessary injury."

[My emphasis-JJ]

Gaza flotilla activists were shot in head at close range

Why would anyone throw someone who'd just shot their friend onto the deck below? Can anyone explain this irrational, hooligan behavior?

'British survivor tells of Israeli assault on Gaza aid ship
Sarah Colborne, the first British survivor of the Israeli assault on the Mavi Marmara aid ship to return to Britain, insists troops fired live ammunition at unarmed activistsautopsy-results'

Medics accompanying critcally injured “cuffed and put on the deck”.

We encountered terrorists who wanted to kill us and we did everything we could to prevent unnecessary injury."

translation?

"it is an act of terrorism to defend your ship and cargo against an illegal boarding party defending an illegal/inhumane embargo."

if an Arab baby vomits on an Israeli soldier, is that an act of terrorism?

if an Arab steals a car in Tel Aviv, is that an act of terrorism?

it seems some Israelis will label just about anything, as terrorism. as long as it fits their agenda.

Syria or Lebanon should Blockade Israel for violating their air space or Hungary.

I wonder if the pro blockade people would also support that Blockade.
