Yes, because its a legal term with legal implications. Saying it here on top of the other threads does not make it true.

We Jews do not collective punish the Palestinians we collective persecute them. They really do nothing wrong except live in wrong land and be inferior to we Jews. We not attack pretend aid ship for punishment but for persecution. We must keep boot on head of Palestinians and stop them from flourish until they disappear from Land of Israel. IDF do well today. Turkish sailors inferior also.

So, your're a troll. Ok...what now?

Can you cite the legal precedent for this claim?

Is there really any need to do that? Shouldn't it be obvious? Not all of the people living in the West Bank are guilty of terrorism against Israel, but they are treated as though they are. Sounds kind of similar to a collective of people being punished for the actions of others...doesn't it?

"Collective punishment" has a meaning and a connotation. The meaning is a war crime when someone is held legally responsible and punished for a crime committed by another.

The way it is being used here is when anyone suffers due to hostilities instigated by another party, but you're still trying to use the term with a war crime connotation.

It's quite weaselly.

I can't wait to hear what the journalists on board the ship have to say about how the events unfolded, just as soon as Israel releases them from detention that is...

On NPR today I heard someone point out that the materials on the ships--cement, water purifiers, wheelchairs--were all items on the list of things Israel doesn't allow into Palestine. If this is true, then the claim that they could have gotten this aid to the people of Palestine by turning it over to the Israeli authorities is false.

How come Israel is not considered a rogue state? They seem to have have little if any regard for the rule of law.

There's also that covert nuclear weapons program. Why is no one (such as the U.S.) demanding to get inspectors in to document that program?

Covert? How do you know about it?

Because information leaks over the years. Obviously there is Mordechai Vanunu's stuff. Various statements from the US goverment which presumably has ways of finding out and actions by Isreal that make no sense in any other context.

Apparently, some of the people on the ships were tweeting as they were being raided.

So his saying that nobody documented it is wrong. Why are you defending him?

Strawman I feel.

In any case when people talk about documenting programs they don't generaly have the CIA and KGB (okey we don't in this case know what the KGB knew but it seems unlikely they didn't have someone keeping an eye on things) in mind as the organisations doing the documenting.

No. I am trying to split hairs since it seems to be a popular way to absolve acts of terrorism/aggression/persecution/whatever you call it.

"No protected person may be punished for an offence he or she has not personally committed. Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited.
Pillage is prohibited.
Reprisals against protected persons and their property are prohibited."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collective
"A collective is a group of entities that share or are motivated by at least one common issue or interest, or work together on a specific project(s) to achieve a common objective. Collectives are also characterised by attempts to share and exercise political and social power and to make decisions on a consensus-driven and egalitarian basis. "

Exactly how is building a confining wall and instituting a blockade that only really harms innocent people not collective punishment in this case?

I've just closed another thread on this subject for bickering and incivility. I'm refraining from editing this one right now, but keep rule 0, rule 11, and rule 12 firmly in mind before you post.
