Is there any evidence in any case that infidelity or promiscuity leads to unstable societies?

I have heard it estimated that the average Victorian English married gentleman must have had at least one session a week with a prostitute. But Victorian England is always considered a byword of stability.

Can anybody provide an example of infidelity or promiscuity destabilising a society?
