Something New About Iran

It might be helpful, both in terms of getting discussion started and for the sake of this thread in the future (after the link may have expired) if you were to summarize some of what's to be found at the blog which you find to be of interest.

What about the viewpoint expressed in the blog do you find deeper or newer than what you have gathered from other sources?

(No, I am not going to click the link myself at this point. On principle, I do not click links in an OP unless the post also contains a good summary of what is to be found at the link.)

I stumbled upon a blog about Iran that is giving a viewpoint that is deeper and newer than what I have up until now believed.

I thought I would share it here and see what people think.

http://www.michaeltotten.com/2010/04/our-man-inside-irans-revolutionary-guards.php Michael J. Totten's "Our Man Inside Iran’s Revolutionary Guards"
Assuming the source is for real, interesting take on the situation from Iran. It is interesting that he thinks change has to come via significant assistance from foreigners.

If Iran were ruled democratically and not by theocratic mullahs, the whole nuclear issue would have been a minor thing.

Michael J Totten's blog should be on everyone's bookmark.

Actually, I understand the issue is that the Revolutionary Guards are now calling the shots, rather than the mullahs.

...if true, that might be even worse.

The problem with attacking -- apart from the feasibility of such an attack -- is that Iranians are very patriotic and proud in their love of country, regardless of how much they despise the nuts at the top. They have a long view of such things: Iran had been a nation continuously for almost 5000 years, so what's a few decades of radical Islam?

So attacking them might well turn them all (the people, not just the leaders) against the world, not due to any love of the Ayatollahs, but due to their love of their country.

Mm..
What a scary piece to read..
But I have just last night dined with a Russian who stayed for two and half weeks in Tehran this January, and told me that the situation is not as bad as it looks.
To whom do we have to believe?

Your Russian tells truth. West is given false picture by the media we control. it's way to get results with moral sanction.
