As a veteran of the “Cartwheel” thread I am interested in the opinion of the rest of the forum so here’s a poll.

Summary:

Amanda Knox, a college student, was convicted in Perugia, Italy along with her two companions of murdering her cottage mate, Meredith.


When Amanda and her companions’ stories fell apart after being questioned by the police, Amanda accused her boss of the murder. He was subsequently cleared and Amanda et. al. were arrested and convicted.

There was evidence of a break in, but the police said it was staged and there was DNA on a knife and bra strap that implicated Amanda, which the defense claims was the result of contamination/test error/deliberate planting.
 
The poll strikes me as invalid on its face because where I live (in Canada), the only possible and the only legitimate verdicts are "guilty" or "not guilty". There's no such thing as an "innocent" verdict (ETA: for good reason), and a hung jury is one that fails to deliver a verdict at all.

Since the poll is being conduced under the rules of the JREF MA your appeal to other authorities is invalid.
 
So long as you didn't intend it to have any application to the real world, then no problem. Planet X all the way. :)

Amanda Knox? I suppose that if I had known her or her alleged victim personally, I might be more interested. But right now, it's about 23:00, the TV is tuned to a Korean channel, and I'm waiting on an overseas phone call. While waiting, I logged on to JREF, and saw this thread ... what was it about again?

Oh well... whatever... never mind...

Walter, seriously, you've been at SLC. Has that mess ended yet after more than eight years? Have the Bigfoot threads ended?

People still believe that watery dilutions can cure cancer, strep throat, and singing out of tune.

Although I believe AK to be guilty, there is no option here that says:

1] A fair justice system will tend to produce a fair outcome.
2] Scientific evidence will tend to support the truth.
3] If Ms Knox is found to be not guilty at any step of the process it will be due to the fairness of Italian justice and incontrovertible forensic evidence.
4] The PR campaign and her own family have injured her opportunity for leniency if the verdicts are upheld upon appeal.
5] The FOA campaign has so much in common with the 9/11 'truth' movement that it's painful to watch.
6] None of the three who were convicted will ever tell the truth about what happened on 01 NOV 2007 and this is nothing more than spitting in the faces of Meredith Kercher's family.

I don't think they can have that happen in Italy, either. I don't have the links right in front of me, but I believe the presiding judge gets to vote twice in the case of a tie.

The point is to find out how others think about this. I don't expect it will have any impact on the legal community in Italy.

What's the point of that? Reality isn't a democracy, and Knox's guilt or innocence has nothing to do with how many forumites think she did it.
 
How can you vote for a "hung jury". That could mean either voting "guilty" or "innocent", depending on how everybody else voted.

That's as ludicrous as kay Burley saying that 65% of the country "voted for a hung parliament".

I meant "hung Jury" as undecided. It seems to have caused some confusion.

I never said "reality is a democracy" nor that her guilt or innocence depends on any way on the JREF forum.

If you wish to disagree with me please use my words not yours.
