I suspect most have learned from spain and won't be doing much untill more information comes in.
 
I was in Times Square on Wednesday night. There were several guys selling comedy club tickets. When he approached me, I told him "I hate comedy".

Did I have something to do with this????
 
I think that if whoever did this had been smart, this would have been a ruse to draw in authorities to be hit by the real bomb, the bigger the body count the better.

But this person is not smart, and it shows in the amateurishness. They're dumb, and I predict they will be caught.

That's not fair. One needs to remember that "sarcasm doesn't work on the 'net": no matter how obviously sarcastic it seemed to quixotecoyote, I'll bet that somebody on the internet already is promoting a similar claim in all seriousness.

Well, I think anyone who is able to setup a large car bomb and have a reasonable chance of it going off is fairly smart. Just not smart enough to seal the deal, I guess. Nor smart enough to realize they are a scum bag.

Car bombs themselves seem like a good idea from a terrorist's perspective. Much more deadly than suicide bombers and hard to detect. Does anyone know what technology, if any, exists to protect high-traffic areas from car bombs? Clandestine cameras or detection equipment? It seems like the only way it could be prevented is through intelligence.

Times Square is usually wall-to-wall traffic even as late as 1-2 am, so, as a resident of NYC, I am interested in learning what they can do to prevent this in the future.

I'm just thoroughly glad this wasn't Al-Queda. Based on their modus operandi, this wouldn't have been the only device. It also wouldn't have been so shoddily made. Al-Queda's trademark IED attacks are usually done in multiple locations simultaneously. This doesn't match that at all. I'm guessing some disgruntled whackjob set this one up.
