Failed car bomb in Times Square

I've heard several reports that a man was seen trying to light something in the suv on fire by two police officers and ran away from the scene seemingly before he was able to successfully set off the explosives. Story still developing. There should be a news conference by Bloomberg and the NYPD chief within an hour.
 
Also the license plates don't match the suv so this hints at a somewhat elaborate plot.
 
News meeting over. Some new details and some others clarified. A vendor spotted the possible car fire, let a police officer on horseback know, and then everyone got involved. No one is known to have been seen fleeing from the vehicle. Bloomberg described the device as amateur-looking. It consisted of 3 propane tanks, 2 filled 5 gallon gas tanks, wires, 2 alarm clocks, and fireworks. Also there seemed to be a gun locker-looking metal box in the suv. The plates were from connecticut and do not belong to the vehicle.

This scares me. Every crazy action of this sort will be capitalized upon for fear mongering purposes, so as to justify eroding the civil rights of Americans under the guise of keeping us safe.

Think about it INRM, a 'vendor' told the police about it. Does that make sense to you? Would the vendor want to be getting as far away from a bomb as possible? Isn't it more reasonable that the vendor was the agent that set up the hoax bomb and that you and I are on the edge of breaking open the conspiracy to deprive America of her rights and harvest our precious bodily fluids?

Wow! Paranoid or what lol

Surely it's more likely he saw smoke coming from the car and so reported a car fire. Not that much to get panicked about. Thanks the FSM it didn't go off.

This kind of reminds me of of a bomb at an Olympic party, I wonder what will come out in the wash now.
