Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

If you mean forever, why not just say so;)

Now on the idea of forever........

If this so-called god always was and is all powerful and all knowing, this world would have already been made an infinite amount of time ago. Even 13.7 billion years of this universe's existence isn’t even a blip compared to an infinite amount of time let alone those who think the universe is only 6,000 years old. So if nothing else, this so-called god is not an “Always Was” one.

Should we all be swapping phone numbers and stuff so we can all meet up somewhere if this thread does get closed?

We can have an "Evidence for Why We Know the New Testament Writers Told the Truth" reunion thread down in Forum Community. We could buy T-shirts and everything.

But I hope the mods don't close this one. I've been so comfy here, and I have my little corner decorated just the way I like it, and the appeals to authority in the garden are just starting to bloom.

Yeah, but the appeals to post count are like kudzu.

OH. MY. LACKOFGOD. I can't tell you how devastated I am that I missed that thread.

Sorry for quoting myself, but I'm bursting with frustrated posts. If I don't say this, I'll explode:

Leif Eiriksson probably did convert to Christianity at some point in his life: the timing's right, and his mother did have a church built (archeologists have found it). But the idea that King Olaf Tryggvason enlisted him to be the evangelist to Greenland is made up. In the many biographies and king's sagas about him, Olaf Tryggvason* is credited with converting 5 countries: Norway, Iceland, the Faroes, Shetland and Orkney. Somewhere along the way, Greenland got added to the list. Later sagas still say Olaf converted 5 countries, but list 6.

Professor Jón Jóhannesson identified Gunnlaug Leifsson, a 12th-century Icelandic monk, as the one who added the conversion of Greenland to the list of Olaf's accomplishments. Notice that it is only Eirik the Red's Saga that includes this anecdote; the earlier Greenlanders' Saga mentions nothing of the kind, presumably because the story hadn't been invented yet.

It's all a bit complicated, but is explained well in the introduction to The Vinland Sagas, Penguin Classics, translated by Magnus Magnusson and Hermann Pálsson, p. 33.

So, the whole basis for that thread was essentially erroneous. Sorry for the off-topicness, but there was a whole thread on a topic I actually know stuff about, and I missed it!

I now return you to your regularly scheduled evidence for why we know the blah blah blah.

*Not to be confused with King Olaf Haraldsson (St. Olaf), who re-converted Norway.

Should somebody start a thread about the "evidences for why we know that Leif Eiriksson was a Christian"?

True, but we at this time don't know where that atom that began to expand faster than the speed of light for a very short time say some astrophysicists came from. Was it always there, or perhaps what was left of a previous universe.

The mystery lays in black holes I think. Where does all the matter swallowed up by these B/H go?

You didn't answer the question I asked, would you like to try again?
And... whilst you're at it, DOC... how about at least responding to my exceedingly simple request for clarification

Well I'm sure Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, probably never read post 11054 but something convinced them.
Convinced them of what?
Please DOC, do at least try to answer
I'm still waiting, DOC

And if you believe the NT writers told the truth as I have been giving evidence for throughout this thread (e.g. post 11054 and the links in post 12307) then what he said is perfectly accurate. The apostles were not being martyred because they had faith, they were dying because they had proof.
Perfectly accurate? This is the very definition of "circular reasoning".

You should read post 11054 and the links in post 12307 for starters.
It's tautologies, all the way down
