"UFO" over Iceland Volcano (video)

First thought was, a v line of birds? Then I wonder why they are flying so close to the ash plume.

Yes, but then when the camera zooms out again, you can see they've just flown through a cloud of very thin ash or smoke, and perhaps that cloud had just arisen while or after they flew across that area.
 
Its nothing biological - the gas would have killed it/them. Just some odd shaped pumic would be my guess
 
My first thought was that it was some sort of scientific instrument--maybe something equipped with a camera? How do they get those overhead shots of erupting volcanoes, anyway?

Either that, or debris such as tree limbs.

I don't think they are flying close to the ash plume. The video is shot with a very strong telephone lens, which makes things in the background look much closer to things in the foreground. The birds might easily be a kilometre or more away from the plume.
 
As the camera zooms out, you can see the angle of the view. It's pointing down at about a 45 degree angle. Whatever we are seeing is on the ground seen through a thin layer of smoke. It's probably just a portion of the mountain that is brighter (like a vein in a rock).

Yeah you are right you know. And without knowing the geography behind the cloud, we could be looking at mountain side with a vent opened lower down

It is a flock of birds, flying out of harm's way much closer to the camera than the to the volcano. The footage is being shot from miles away, so you have to consider the size of the "object" in proportion to the size of the volcano. Minimum safe distance from the volcano for spectators is ~4km, but the camera appears to be even further than that. If the birds were close enough to be in danger of the gas and pumice, you wouldn't be able to see them at all from that far. They are far enough away from the camera, though, to be distorted by atmospheric haze.

For that to be a craft of any kind flying through the plume, it would have to several magnitudes larger than any that we presently have on earth. Even a C130 would be but a speck at that range. With all the cameras and instrumentation focused on the area, it is inconceivable that something so massive would escape detection.

But, as always, the UFOspiracy tools presume themselves to be more clever than the rest of the world.

The poster of that video (on youtube) is a good example of someone who wants to believe aliens exist and narrows their mind so as to follow their chosen path, much like 911 truthers do.
you can even see the birds individually flapping their wings!
