They just banned two of the last remaining opposition parties, and media.

The suspension, ordered by the Ahmadinejad-controlled Interior Ministry, charges both groups with working against national interests.

Of course...

The opposition movement has lost momentum over the past two months, partly as a result of seeing more than 100 of its members put on mass trial over street protests. Judges have handed down a dozen death sentences so far, and the first of those convicted of fighting against the state have already been executed.

Democracy in Iran is going to have to wait.

Guys...

Iran isn't that bad.

Look at the enormous strides they've made in welfare programs.

Forums, like nature, abhor a vacuum.

If a satirical over-the-top apologist doesn't post a real one might.

:P

Sassy forgot the old rule: sarcasm doesn't work on the 'net, since no matter how obviously absurd you think the opinion you express is, somebody holds it in earnest.

I take great umbrage at the notion that Iran isn't everything it should be and more than you can imagine.

...no, seriously, Iran sux

Ummmm, Houston we have a problem. Iran Apologists failed to ignite.
Not surprised; it's the usual "yawn, who cares?" indifference from the same folks who go ballistic over every "human rights violation" by Israel or "creeping theocracy" by the USA.

"Human rights" and "opposing theocracy" has nothing to do with it. There's just no money -- or self-satisfaction at being on the cutting edge of "political activism" -- in caring about Iran's people. Not sexy enough.

Opposing the evil imperialist-capitalist-globalizing-McDonlad's-eating big & small Satan, however, is cool.

Is there some sort of form you have to fill out to express your formal outrage?

Does everyone need to express their outrage or will a certain number of people suffice?

Let's say a theocratic military dictatorship.

Yes. It was already a theocracy since the 1979 revolution.

Democracy was at best symbolic, little real power, since the candidates allowed to participate in the "democracy" were only those approved by the clerics.

So it was only a "democracy" in the same way that Canada is a "monarchy."

I blame the separation of the politics forums. You can count on us Americans to ignite at anything.

I'm offended, angered, and pissed at that accusation! I call for evidence now you commie!

Oh say can you seeeeee...

:p
