Hmm. I could probably scout out a spot at the botanic gardens and take one photo per month from the same location, then edit them into an animated GIF to show the changing of the seasons...

Okay, just give me a year to get it all together.

You're on, mate, and I wish you well with it. I've been meaning, for years, to set up a webcam and do the same sort of thing, but I'm too much of a scatterbrain to get it done.

I already love your pictures, so I'm totally looking forward to your results, and I'll bet you Melbourne to a rusty rabbit trap that I'm not the only one. It's a project that will find an audience far wider than just your fans here in the Forum, but remember that HBS asked first so we get first lookies.

I'll make a concerted effort to do the same thing here. Goodness knows, I might end up doing something useful, so any advice will be gratefully accepted.

Please don't tell anyone.

It really is a great idea. An interesting place to do such a thing would be a Top-End billabong as it dries out to nothing before the whole area floods again. The landscape changes through the seasons in that part of the world are striking. Part of the shoot might involve standing in waist-deep water at the edge of a crocodile-infested paperbark swamp but think of the results!

Too late.

But a series of shots of one of your beloved rhododendrons or your garden or something might prove interesting...

I've been wanting to do some pictures of my weeds for the Post Your Garden thread, but every time I have time it's all cloudy or pouring rain, which makes it difficult. One of these days there'll be flowers and sunshine at the same time, I'm sure.

A soon-to-be-released rural industry report suggests giving endangered species like the eastern quoll (or marsupial native cat), hopping mice and sugar gliders an economic value, in order to save them.

Ideas being floated are that people be encouraged to keep the native creatures as pets, rather than cats or dogs, or that Australians can trade in them, have many more backyard captive breeding programs that earn an income and even export them.

In the United States, Australian sugar gliders are captive bred and marketed as "pocket pets". One entrepreneur alone sells 20,000 sugar gliders each year.

Awww, I want a hopping mouse, or a sugar glider!

It is a red hot debate and there are many complex problems: one is the "cuteness factor". Many people are only likely to be interested in the pretty new pets.

I don't know... I bet the bogans would all love a pet Tasmanian Devil. :D

Crocodiles are no longer endangered because they are farmed as a food source. I wonder what bilby stew would be like?
Or a Sugar glider sandwich? or
Quoll ragout? or
Tandoori devil? or
Southern fried flying fox?

Ha anyone else ever had emu sausages?

Yep, no kidding. Pretty good too - I wouldn't have them all the time. I prefer traditional English bangers

Did they add anything to the emu - I had a pie once, good texture - zero flavour

I'm getting a Carpet Python when I get my own place.

Cool! :) I like the idea, and very nearly got a pet snake years ago myself, but have since had too many nightmares about snakes to want to get one now. Besides, I don't think Pari and a snake would get along. :)
