Teabagger Hero Sarah Palin Using Old Interviews Without Permission

God, did Palin really think she could get away with that stunt? I have no problem belieiving that.
What shocks me is that Fox when along with it. Never been a big fan of Fox News, but I though at least they were professionals. THis was pure amateur hour.

I doubt she was involved in the decision to do it nor do I think she would care one way or the other.

I think she'll plead ignorance. Which she can basically do for all aspects of her life.

When she first appeared in the public eye on the national stage, I cut her some slack on this sort of thing, but you can only do that so much. At some point you have to acknowledge that this woman just isn't executive material.

I would guess that Fox owns those interviews and does not need permission to air them. I would also cut Palin a little slack in that she is the host of a show that does interviews. I don't think it is unreasonable to presume she did not act as interviewer for all of her segments.

We have not even seen the show yet to let's not pile on too much before we see the format. She probably does some interviewing and acts as host and introduces other interviews. No big deal and it is done all the time in the industry.

I have not seen the ads but I doubt they explicitly say Palin interviewed LL or Keith.

I believe LL, Toby Keith, etc are claiming that these are random interviews they did in the past, with no knowledge that they would be used to promote some unrelated show. So while maybe she isn't directly responsible for this, I also don't see her stepping up to condemn it.

I read it a little differently. It sounded like they gave interviews to the show "Real American Stories" (or whatever) and Fox later added Palin as the host making it "Real American Stories with Sarah Palin" in much the same way that "The Daily Show" became "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart".

That being the case, I don't think it is fair to say that they gave interviews to a different show, but I do think it is fair that they don't want to be associated with a failed political hack. Same show, different context.

That could also be the case. From what I understand, some of the interviews are 2 years old, which predates Palin becoming a national joke.

Watching an hour of programming on a Sunday night would easily debunk this thought. Although I'm happy that you were able to keep this idea this long. :(

I gave her slack until the Katie Couric interview. Palin later claimed that the interview went so badly because Couric (of course!) had a "liberal bias" due to her low self-esteem.

After a while, I just can't take any more of Palin's baloney. She was likely unfit to be mayor of Wasilla, was definitely not fit to be governor of Alaska, so why is she pushing this? An even better question would be "why do certain Americans still put up with her?" but that's another can 'o worms.

What was Palin's degree in again? I think it's Communications-Journalism or something like that (IIRC, it wasn't a real J-school degree).

I would be very surprised if LL or Keith did not sign a release for their interview. I would imagine that the release allows the interview to be used as Fox sees fit. LL and Keith have no legal leg to stand on, IMO.

Condemn what, exactly? That a news program used interview footage that it owned and expected to air for promotion? What's the big deal? So Palin did not interview them directly, so what. I doubt their release stipulates what shot Fox will use it on.

"Real American Stories From Years Ago" should be the title.

I don't see much of a problem with the show anyway, unless they edit it to make it look as if Palin is the one doing the interviews.

Not a legal leg, no. If Fox News wanted to press the issue, I doubt there is any question that they could use the interview.

That doesn't mean they can't raise a stink about it.

No one is claiming they don't legally own it.

Quite honestly, I wonder if Palin is even bright enough to understand the issue.

Wow, Quitter Palin is being called to the carpet for the misrepresentation of her new Fox News show?

Color me surprised

Well, if the criticism gets too tough for her, she could always quit... again.

I agree with Lurker 100% on this. They signed the releases, that means they no longer own the rights to say what is done with it. It is interesting because Palin pitched a fit when Newsweek used a photo of her (for which she had signed a release) in a context that she did not like. Seems she wants it both ways.

So what she did is perfectly legal, no question. Not even unethical, IMO. But what will be the blowback from this? If LL and Keith choose to make a very big deal of this and how they were being "used" it could bite Sarah on the ass, big time, especially seeing as how she is touting them as heros.

All in all, it shows a terrible lack of judgment and planning by Fox and the producers of the show. They should have let LL and Keith know what they planned and gotten their sign-off on it before proceeding. Stupid stupid stupid.
