Amanda Knox guilty - all because of a cartwheel

Well, given that Nadeau says she got Knox's diary from her lawyers, the question is where did she get the translation of the diary that turned out to be so wrong?

Are you saying she got that from the lawyers, too? What's your evidence for that assertion?

She got the diary from Amanda's lawyers. But you raise an interesting point. The diary was taken from Amanda (that she'd written in English). The ILE then translated the diary into Italian and gave it out to concerned parties in the case file (the legal teams of the defence and the victims). If 'that' was the copy Barbie Nadeau was given then she'd have had to translate it back into English. That would mean the text would have had to go through several translations which could easily have resulted in errors. Understand, Ms Nadeau was blacklisted by the family so she wouldn't have been given a diary copy by them (a copy that would have been in English and not gone through any translations).

About your sudden eagerness to disassociate yourself from the FOA, while still lauding their values. Sort of like, wanting to follow the cause but not be tarred by it. Play it safe...cold feet.

To disassociate myself from an organization I would have had to show some allegiance to it in the first place; something I've never done. What I see from yours and Kermit's comments is that you have a hard time differentiating between members of FOA and anyone who has an issue with the evidence against AK and RS. To help with this, I'll put my beliefs on the table for all to see. I do not believe 100 percent that they are innocent. But I am around 85 percent in favor of them probably being innocent. If there were anything against them as strong as there is against RG, such as a bloody fingerprint, my suspicion of guilt would be a lot stronger. And actually, my belief in their guilt shot up when I read Nadeau's book and she mentioned the blonde hairs in MK's hand. But that obviously led nowhere, as it was never mentioned again in her book, and a fellow poster has now proven why. I am unlike you, someone who believes 100 percent to know that they committed the murder, as if it were an infallible fact. To try and refute my statements toward kermit by associating me with FOA is, as you're so fond of saying, attacking a straw man.

.
Well, I think it's obvious I didn't say "anyone".

As for being careful not to necessarily mix "pro-Amanda" with FOA, I recognize that not all pro-Amanda persons are FOA.

Well, thanks for clearing that up. But I stand by my previous statement that your assertion here:

In fact what really seems bizarre in comparing the pro-Amanda crowd's treatment of Nadeau and Pisa, Nadeau gets the shaft.

Is contradicted by a pro-Amanda site (it is called freeamanda after all. Whatever may have been done in poor taste on PMF is irrelevant) lambasting Nick Pisa.

Can you back up your claim with facts that show that the family was first to release her diary?

I don't know why we're even wondering about the sources of all this personal information in AK's own written words. There are videos of her friend Madison Paxton reading from a personal letter from AK. All the information released, unless there's a legal claim against the publisher, has been spun for reporters by campaigners on her defence team or hangers-on.

Why the big mystery about their origins?

Nadeau mis-quoted Amanda's diary, and I don't think the blame rests with Amanda's lawyers. When she was asked about it a year ago, she said the quote was from a different diary also written by Amanda. But she couldn't produce it.

Do try to follow the thread of the conversation. The words we're currently discussing are not AK's own written words - they are a mistranslation of them, one which, by a bizarre coincidence no doubt, appears to reverse their meaning.

She didn't get it from Amanda's lawyers. Good lord.
But, but, but Fulcanelli said she did! He wouldn't have been being ... economical with the truth, would he?
Google is your friend:

Nadeau in Newsweek from 17th Jan '08:
With the investigators' material painting such an unflattering picture of Knox and Sollecito—who say they have since broken up—their respective lawyers have now released the couple's own account of the events of the night of Nov. 1. These have come in the form of diaries compiled during their time in prison. Knox records her thoughts in English in a "Spider-Man 2" notebook titled in Italian "La Mia Prigione" (My Prison); Sollecito compiles his in a tightly written Italian text called "Notes on a Prison Journey."

I have a complete scan of that document. It does not contain the quote that Nadeau used in her article: "That night I smoked a lot of marijuana and I fell asleep at my boyfriend’s house. I don’t remember anything. But I think it’s possible that Raffaele went to Meredith’s house, raped her and then killed. And when he got home, while I was sleeping, he put my fingerprints on the knife. But I don’t understand why Raffaele would do that."

Post it up then Wilkes.

Good for you.

Good grief. Is all this hulabaloo over a journalist's apparent mistranslation of the garbled nonsense Amanda and her admirers are passing off as scripture? Maybe Nadeau can claim the translation came to her in a vision and we could all move on.

But, again Charlie, why all the fuss about Nadeau's Feb 2008 article, when a year earlier in Feb 2009, Nick Pisa had the exact same words - word for word - and much more extensive quoting from the prison diaries (albeit the words were double translated).

What appears to be your intended reply to my post below seems to be inadvertantly be a repost of a prior post of yours. I'm interested to know if the FOA approach now on their "fairness.html" page will change, given Pisa's more extensive and earlier use of the double translation diary. Thanks.

.
Hi Charlie.

I find it hard to believe that it was only in February 2009 (the timing of Nadeau's Daily Beast article) that FOA heard about the (supposed) entry in Amanda's prison diary stating that Raffaele could have done it, sneaking off to the cottage with the Double DNA Knife in hand.

That version of her dairy had been talked about for many months (a year) before that on all the sites.
=====================

Actually, I'm more interested to know if FOA will pursue Nick Pisa as diligently as Nadeau, because he seems to have been one of the first purveyors of this version of Amanda's diary to the English speaking world.

Will FOA update the http://www.friendsofamanda.org/fairness.html page? Actually, Nick's version of the diary is much more extensive than Nadeau's. It's a better and more complete example of the fairness issue, from the FOA point of view.
.
I've done some further googling. In fact, prior to Nick Pisa's article in February 2008, the first reference to the Amanda's diary as referring to the possibility of Raffaele going to kill Meredith while Amanda slept seems to have appeared in La Repubblica, on 30 November 2007, less than a month after the killing.

.
The next day, 1 December 2007, The Telegraph covered Repubblica's article
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1571166/Tape-puts-Knox-at-Meredith-murder-scene.html

Both of these media references were discussed at length on the discussion boards at the moment.

By the time that Chris Mellas had joined Steve Huff's Haloscan thread (the precursor to PerugiaMurderFile), he was making these sorts of comments concerning Amanda's prison diary:

.
But if Chris Mellas knew about the diary being leaked back then, why didn't he / the Knox-Mellas clan / the FOA when FOA was set up, go after the original leakers and translators and publicisers of the double-translated text?

Why all the emphasis on only dragging Barbie Nadeau through the mud about this for using this words a year after they first appeared in different media channels, were debated about extensively, and were also commented upon by the Knox-Mellas clan (as per Chris Mellas' own posts on Internet boards)?

BTW, Chris Mellas asked at that time if we "kneel and pray" for honesty in the presentation of evidence. The evidence was presented. Now I'm waiting for the judge's report to see the logic behind the decision. Everyone seemed to agree with Micheli's logic in his report for finding Rudy guilty.

Who were the original leakers?
By early January '08 Nadeau had reported that Amanda's lawyers had released redacted versions of the diaries. The earliest mention of the diaries seems to be a quote from Saulo Scarabattoli, the prison chaplain 10 days after the murder. The earliest quote's I've found from the diary come from a month after the murder, two months before the first mention of the lawyers offering them around. There could be two phases of leaks I suppose?

Here's a good quote from the Telegraph in December 16th '07:

Meanwhile, Miss Knox released another chunk of her prison diaries through her lawyer, Luciano Ghirga. In the new writings, she continued to insist that she was innocent, and said she was unable to understand why her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, 23, continued to "tell lies" about her.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1572744/Suspects-DNA-on-Meredith-Kerchers-clothes.html

So a month and a half after the murder and another chunk of her diary is release by Ghirga. This time Barbie's name is nowhere in sight.
