What Is The Soul?

Now, how many times do we hear about this immortal soul. Now we have one talking about it not being immortal, I sure wish they would all get on the same page.

And they all like to say, they got it right, it is the other guy that has it wrong, geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Paul

:) :) :)

Is it not the same with atheists?

You appear to me like somone who is very insecure and needs constant slapping on the back.

Funny that.
I see the people who cling to such ridiculous concepts as "soul" and "afterlife" and "sky-daddy" as insecure and in constant need of reassurance and patting on the back.
Just sad that they have to shield themselves against rationality and mainstream science in order to overcome their insecurities.

And I bet if you told that "insecure" Paulhoff guy "don't go into that room, the Devil is in there and he will eat your soul", he would walk straight in, just to check things out, without any slapping on the back.:D

No need to preach, that is your job. Now which so-called god, and if this god is the maker of all things, it made sin, how don't you see this unless you are just kissing up to this so-called god you believe in.

Paul

:) :) :)

Again, first you have to define sin. Though this isn't a thread about sin.

Everytime someone asks him about god, he gets upset. He's not here to talk about god ... only the Bible, god's word, the soul, JW doctrine, true faith as opposed to apostate Xtianity, etc. But not god.

I thought Rorylee had his own Fight Club rules, but I think there's a new guy in town:

The first rule of the Blood Soul Bible Club is: do not ask about the God of the Blood Soul Bible Club.

The second rule of the Blood Soul Bible Club is: DO NOT ASK ABOUT THE GOD OF THE BLOOD SOUL BIBLE CLUB.

The third rule of the Blood Soul Bible Club is: shut up and listen and do as your told in the name of God ...

ETA: And David, I'll leave your thread alone now like you asked. But you did respond earlier inviting me back in :). And no, I'm not targeting you only. Get over it. Enjoy your game.

How many people here do I have to respond to about God when I am talking about the what the Bible says about the soul, the flood, or the age of the universe? If you want me to talk about God then there will be a time for that in a later thread.

I didn't say you were targeting me only I said that I see that you are targeting others in the same way. Anyone who believes.

What does ETA mean?

Edited To Add. It is a courtesy when posting in a fast-moving thread to indicate that the author changed the post from when it was first written. On this forum, there is a 2 hour window in which any post you wrote may be edited. Since someone may have quoted or read the post between the first edition and the edit, it is polite to highlight which bits are new, and may have been missed by someone.

It could also mean Estimated Time of Arrival, but that would only apply to souls if someone actually knew the time and date of the rapture.

ETA means "edited to add". IOW (in other words) I went back to my post to add that after the fact.

And I'm not targeting just anyone who believes. For those who are 100% sure of God's existence I want to meet their god, if their god is alive. If he isn't alive, then I suspect I won't meet their god. It's really very simple and it boggles my mind why it has to be so complicated. If I ask you if you are married, have children, have a job, etc ... they are simple questions and have simple answers. Do you believe in god, yes/no. If yes, I'd like to meet your god. I don't want to meet your wife, kids, or any of that really. Not if you know god. I don't want to see a picture or hear stories about your god ... I want to MEET him/her/it. That way I can see for myself, also, whether or not your god can be trusted. If they're dead, oh well. It's irrelevant.

And you can always say, "I don't know." ;)

ETA: I see Hokulele answered for me while I was typing my post. That's how ETA works! Aren't real-life relevant examples cool ! ;)

David Henson, the thread rambles a bit so forgive me if this has been covered.

What exactly is it you believe goes to Heaven/Hell and when do we get it so we are ready for the journey? At death, at birth, at conception, third Tuesday in March following a full moon, when we ask nicely for it? When?

We know it's not the body as that hangs around ponging a bit and upsetting the children.

You seem to be skipping and it seems to be off your own topic.

You claimed that according the the Bible the soul (nephesh) is mortal and dies.

Do you accept that you were wrong about this and that even the Old Testament claims that the soul might be immortal?

I'm not skipping I'm giving you two possibilities to explain your interpretation of Ezekiel 18:20-21, 31.

Is it spiritual death or resurrection? Also, I don't recall you having answered my question. What makes you think the spirit was ever alive.

I don't accept that the soul is immortal according to the Hebrew or Greek scripture.

To simplify, if you are familiar with the beliefs of the Jehovah's Witnesses regarding these questions you have a pretty good idea of my beliefs.

Namely, hell is the common grave of man, eternal damnation is a pagan influenced doctrine of apostate Christianity, 144,000 go to heaven and the meek inherit the earth. There is a resurrection of the unrighteous as well as the righteous.

My apologies, I must have misinterpreted something you said.

Apology accepted, and mine in return for the same reason. I see you didn't ask for proof of the immortal soul.

So, given that you are an OEC, and you accept scientific evidence for the age of the earth, why do you persist with this nonsense about a global flood?

I believe that there is evidence of the global flood, but evidence can be misinterpreted.

Is science only valid if it reinforces your bible interpretation?

No. I have heard scientific evidence which made an attempt to confirm scriptural accounts which I have denied.

What exactly do you mean by meet God? Say hello, shake his hand, have lunch or confirm his existence in some meaningful way in which you ask earnestly for out of a desire to know him?

If the latter I could possibly arrange that if you do as I tell you.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

[Smiles] The rapture is about a 200 year old teaching of John Darby. It is not a Bible teaching.

Simplified to the point where you completely failed to answer my questions in any meaningful way.

Would you like to have another go?

Thanks.

ETA: Maybe not as clear as I thought. I'll try this: What exactly do you believe travels to Heaven? What would be a good name for whatever it is? Whatever it is - When do we get it?

That makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. What travels to heaven? spirit creatures / angels. What would be a good name for whatever it is? Whatever its name is. When do we get it? Never.

If I would have to guess you are talking about the soul going either to heaven or to hell. The soul doesn't go to heaven. If you are talking about the spirit it doesn't go to heaven either. If you are talking about exactly who goes to heaven the answer is 144,000 annointed spiritual believers in Christ, and it is in spirit form and they go immediately upon death. The rest of us remain dead either to be resurrected at the conclusion of Satan's system of things or they remain dead in the grave eternally.

I believe that there is evidence of the global flood, but evidence can be misinterpreted.

Interesting.

I know this is kinda off topic for this thread, but Ive always been interested in just how far this would go.

There is no evidence for a global flood, just a bunch of bad apologetics and nonsense about the grand canyon. How can you seriously claim to know better than, for example, the entire field of geology? All those geologists are wrong? You should be very careful reading AIG for "evidence" :)

Another interesting question is this (please answer if you can): if someone showed you that there was no flood, beyond a shadow of a doubt, what would this mean in regards to your faith? Would you claim the flood myth to be allegory, or would you throw the entire bible out the window?

something is traveling to Heaven? where is Heaven and what is it?

Better answer. Thanks. I hope you don't mind my correction. It's more in line with what I was looking for.

Do you believe they are awarded the spirit form at the moment of death or do they have the spirit form before?

Does everyone have this spirit form but only the smeared, gross thousand get to use it?
