Are you still talking about Barbie's claims that Amanda slept with seven men in Italy here?
No, we are discussing something she wrote in the Daily Beast:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-02-18/sex-and-murder-in-italy
In this article she quotes Amanda's diary as follows: "That night I smoked a lot of marijuana and I fell asleep at my boyfriend’s house. I don’t remember anything. But I think it’s possible that Raffaele went to Meredith’s house, raped her and then killed."
However, that statement is nowhere to be found in Amanda's diary.
Anne Bremner contacted Nadeau about this, and Nadeau's response was that she was quoting from a second diary that was also written by Amanda. But she didn't provide a manuscript or facsimile, and nobody else seems to know about this phantom diary.
....
Fulcanelli says Nadeau cares only about truth, but her writing suggests that she likes to embroider the truth with imaginary facts.
.
Charlie, if FOA and the pro-Amanda crowd were only concerned about truth, they wouldn't have an orchestrated attack programmed against Barbie Nadeau.
I'm not necessarily supportive of everything Nadeau says (earlier comments made here show I don't agree with all of her statements).
However, it strikes me as strange (oh, well maybe it's not all that strange after all), that on this site and others
there is such an effort to discredit Nadeau. She is painted by FOA as having invented that particular translation of a translation which - as per your link - appeared in The Daily Beast on 18 February 2009.
However, you don't attack Nick Pisa, who was one of the first purveyors of those words almost exactly a year earlier, on 27 February 2008.
Why didn't Anne Bremner contact Nick Pisa?
I did a Google search for the exact expression: "
I think it’s possible that Raffaele went to Meredith’s house, raped her and then killed"
One of the first replies is this FOA page which decries Barbie Nadeau only:
Another reply is
Nick Pisa's translation of the translation in earlier 2008, with further passages which go beyond Nadeau's borrowed sentence:
Wouldn't it have been
more appropriate for FOA on its site, and through its blog posters to decry the earlier and more extensive Diary "translation" published by Pisa, of which Nadeau seems to have quoted only a sentence?
In fact what really seems bizarre in comparing the pro-Amanda crowd's treatment of Nadeau and Pisa,
Nadeau gets the shaft. However, someone like pro-Amanda food-blogger-turned-case-writer
Candace Dempsey only has kind words for Nick:
Ms. Dempsey has taken the pleasure of quoting bad-translator Nick and reproducing his photo working together with Perugia Shock blogger Frank Sfarzo:
Even one of the more radical pro-Amanda posters, the famous Turtle Dove, has praised and linked Nick Pisa:
... and yet FOA prefers to slam Barbie Nadeau for using words which Nick Pisa published in a much more extensive version a year earlier.
Curious.
Maybe FOA fears Nadeau.
I have a feeling that Nadeau is helping (unfortunately, from the Knox-Mellas point of view) reduce the return-on-investment on the multi-digit expenditure on the David Marriott PR campaign. After all the effort and cost to get on Larry King, Oprah, and the stalwart CBS 48 Hours with Paul Ciolinos calling on witnesses in the dark of night, well, Barbie Nadeau is neutralising a good part of the goodwill generated in those media hits.
